Recently, Zhou Jinfeng, the Secretary-General of the CBCGDF, recommended to the relevant UN agencies to nominate “Pangolin Girl” Sophia as a sustainable development goal youth leader.

As one of the UN member states, China has made substantial progress in promoting the sustainable development agenda in the social, economic and environmental fields since the adoption of the 17 sustainable development goals at the 2015 UN Sustainable Development Summit. There have been many ways to support United Nations initiatives and projects in different ways.

CBCGDF deeply recognizes the concept of the United Nations Youth Leaders Initiative. Since its establishment, it has been tirelessly committed to environmental protection for a long time and has cultivated many outstanding young talents. Young people in China have gradually grown into a new force in environmental protection. Their environmental awareness and long-lasting behavior are also highly compatible with the UN's philosophy and spirit. A large number of outstanding young people have emerged. They are always silently and willing to contribute to the protection and green development of biodiversity. There is a young girl, Sophia, who is born in the 1990s and is affectionately called the "Pangolin Girl." She has made outstanding efforts and achievements in protecting endangered species and illegal trade in anti-wild animals.

In the past two years, a total of 34 young people from all over the world have been elected. But there are no youth representatives from China. Zhou Jinfeng pointed out that China's youth population accounts for a significant proportion of the world, as well as the efforts and contributions of Chinese youth in promoting sustainable development, are also evident in the world. We look forward to hearing the voices of China among the young leaders of the United Nations, and we hope that the Chinese youth role model will inspire more people to move forward for sustainable development.
