The IENE International Conference “LIFE LINES – Linear Infrastructure Networks with Ecological Solutions” is being held next week in a virtual format from 12-14 January 2021. This workshop will include presentations from various NGOs about their work to address infrastructure impacts to date, and perspectives from the public sector about experience with nongovernmental action. Small group discussions will explore the challenges and opportunities for strengthening the role of NGOs in advocating for wildlife-friendly infrastructure initiatives, policies and practices. Co-facilitators and presenters will lead a conversation that elaborates on how to better coordinate the NGO community. Workshop participants will discuss opportunities for engagement, priorities for action, and desired outcomes that can inspire the creation of a global network of NGOs for smart green infrastructure.

This workshop will demonstrate efforts in five countries, namely India, Nepal, Mongolia, Myanmar and Thailand, to incorporate wildlife-friendly measures into infrastructure projects. It is aimed at opening a dialogue and creating an opportunity for participants to engage with panelists for future collaboration.

This workshop will introduce preparation of a globally applicable Guidance for avoiding, minimizing, or mitigating the impacts of linear infrastructure on protected areas, ecological connectivity, and biodiversity and explore opportunities for implementing the Guidance in regional and species-specific contexts. Participants will hear first-hand from core authors and partners about the process of creating the Guidance since conception and current preparation. Participants will be introduced to key chapters, explore the numerous examples of linear infrastructure impacts and mitigation worldwide and will be offered the opportunity to weigh in on this landmark publication.


本次研讨会将介绍如何编制一份全球适用的指南,以避免、尽量减少或减轻线性基础设施对保护区、生态连通性和生物多样性的影响,并探讨在区域和特定物种背景下实施指南的机会。参与者将直接从核心作者和合作伙伴那里了解自构思和当前准备工作以来创建指南的过程。参与者将被介绍到关键章节,探索世界范围内线性基础设施影响和缓解措施的众多实例,并将有机会参与这一里程碑式的出版物。
