From January 1st, 2020, the Yangtze River will usher in a 10-year fishing ban. The Yangtze River Basin is rich in products and fish resources. Many animals are unique to the Yangtze River Basin. China Biodiversity Conservation and Green Development Foundation (CBCGDF) has made great contributions to the ecological environment and biodiversity conservation of the Yangtze River Basin.
In order to protect aquatic biological resources, in 2017, Zhu Kai, a volunteer and CBCGDF jointly established the “CBCGDF’s Anti Electro-fishing Center (FDY)”. In the past two years, great achievements have been made in popularizing the protection of fish resources, resisting illegal fishing, protecting indigenous fish species, protecting aquatic animals and water resources.
In 2018, CBCGDF proposed in the proposal of the Two Sessions and made suggestions on China's revision of the Criminal Law of the People's Republic of China, the Fisheries Law and other contents to combat illegal fishing. Zhang Fengying, deputy to the National People’s Congress and Agronomist of Agricultural Technology Extension Center of Yunmeng County Agricultural Bureau of Hubei Province, and the other four representatives submitted the proposal on severely cracking down on electro-fishing and strengthening fishery administration. CBCGDF and Anti Electro-fishing Center (FDY) are strongly encouraged.
In the development of Tianxingzhou and Baishazhou, CBCGDF suggested that the ecological protection of the Yangtze River should be discussed scientifically to protect the water body and water resources of the Yangtze River so as to protect the biodiversity and fish resources of the Yangtze River Basin from damage. CBCGDF has received a reply from the Yangtze River Water Conservancy Commission, and has not yet received an application for the development of Tianxingzhou and Baishazhou, and will keep strictly implementing the Yangtze river habitat protection.
During the investigation, in order to effectively protect the waters of the important habitats of the Baiji, CBCGDF also received a reply from the Yangtze River Office on the proposal letter of Baiji. It will strengthen the habitat protection of Heisha Island, increase the punishment and enhance the protection function. The long-term efforts of CBCGDF in protecting the aquatic biological resources of the Yangtze River were affirmed by the Yangtze River Forum, and its relevant papers were selected into the Yangtze River Forum and displayed during the meeting. CBCGDF was invited to participate in the Yangtze River Biological Resources Protection Forum, which proposed to work together to protect the Yangtze River creatures and build a beautiful life Yangtze River. With the establishment of “Community Conservation Area for Indigenous Fish ? Zigong” and “Community Conservation Area for Baiji ? Heishazhou", CBCGDF has realized the harmonious coexistence of humans and nature and created a green and beautiful home.
In 2019, the protection area of the Xiangyang section of Hanjiang River in China completed the work of fishing ban and withdrawal, centralized destruction of fishing boats, engines and fishnets, and comprehensive prohibition of productive fishing. CBCGDF will continue to help protect fish resources and biodiversity conservation in the Yangtze River Basin.
In the Yangtze River pollution case and the case of "' Mi Yue Bridge' Construction Killed Chinese sturgeon", CBCGDF has protected the ecological environment, water resources and biodiversity of the Yangtze River Basin, and filed more than 10 Environmental Public Interest Lawsuits (EPIL).
People should attach equal importance to the promotion of the Yangtze River's fishing ban, fish stocks, biodiversity, and ecological environment. Great achievements have been made in the long-term efforts of CBCGDF, which including illegal fishing, water resources protection, rare animal protection, fish resources protection, ecological environment protection, etc.
