Recently, Dr. Kirsten Dunlop, CEO of the Climate-KIC, Professor Mary Ritter OBE, and lawyer Renee Otten, DeHeng HaiYa Justice and Law Office, visited the China Biodiversity Conservation and Green Development Foundation (CBCGDF) to discuss Climate Change, Nature-Based Solutions and other issues with Dr. Zhou Jinfeng, Secretary-General of CBCGDF.

 

Climate-KIC is a knowledge and innovation group launched and established by the European Institute of Innovation and Technology (EIT), a subsidiary body of the European Union in 2010. With the aim of climate action innovation, Climate-KIC is the largest public-private innovation cooperation project in Europe, with a network of partnerships spread all over the world. Linda introduced the mission, history and main business of CBCGDF, and its efforts in tackling climate change and protecting biodiversity. Dr. Kirsten Dunlop and Professor Mary Ritter introduced the background, vision, mission, and objectives of Climate-KIC, as well as the focus of work in recent years.

 

Dr. Zhou Jinfeng warmly welcomed Dr. Kirsten Dunlop and her delegation. He briefed the guests on China's ecological civilization and the necessity of sustainable development, and introduced the green "Belt and Road Initiative" international cooperation, "Good Food", "Green Meeting Index" (GMI), and initiatives such as "plastic pollution reduction" and "chopstick walking" as well as efforts made by the CBCGDF to promote young people's participation in environmental protection.

 

The two sides also discussed cooperation on urban planning of NBS, how agriculture can change global food supply, food system transformation, new energy, public awareness enhancement, forestry and climate change response, and the upcoming Fifteenth Conference of the Parties to the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD COP15) in China.

 

In the area of sustainable food, Zhou Jinfeng shared his experience of participating in the Stockholm Food Forum and cordially guests to attend the Third Good Food Summit to be held in Suzhou in mid-August. He introduced the establishment of the Good Food Fund by the CBCGDF. Every year, it gathers with thinkers and promoters from all over the world to discuss the most pressing issues in today's food system and invites government departments, non-governmental organizations, business organizations, catering industry and academia to work together to promote change. He cordially invited Dr. Dunlop to attend this summer's summit and share valuable experience. 

 

Dr. Dunlop thanked and praised the creativity and action of the Green Meeting Index (GMI). She believed that such a standard was imperative in the future. Both sides look forward to working together in the future to explore the European version of GMI.
