On July 14, the Third National Conference on Ethnic Ecology was successfully held in Xining City, Qinghai Province. The theme of the conference was “Ethnic Ecology and Rural Revitalization in Ethnic Areas”. Dr. Zhou Jifeng, the Secretary-General of China Biodiversity Conservation and Green Develpment Foundation (CBCGDF) was invited to participate and delivered a keynote speech titled “Eco-Civilization Concept and Ecological Protection and Sustainable Development in Ethnic Areas”.

The conference was hosted by CBCGDF expert, also the chairman of the National Ecology Professional Committee of the Chinese Society of Ecology, and a professor at the Central University for Nationalities, Xue Dayuan. Experts and scholars from national ecology and related fields from all over the country attended the meeting and reported and discussed on the topic of national ecology and related hot topics.

Dr. Zhou Jinfeng said in his keynote speech that ethnic ecology is of great significance to the revitalization of rural areas in ethnic areas, the construction of ecological civilization along the Belt and Road, and the protection of biodiversity. He focused on sharing the CBCGDF China Conservation Area for Relic Gulls at Tianjin and China Conservation Area for Libellula Angelina at Tianjin the two CCAfa sites, the recommendations on the conservation of genetic diversity of aardvark to NPC and CPPCC two sessions meetings, Beijing's Swift Cases of building ecologically civilized cities, as well as building the CBCGDF China Conservation Area for Hemp Chicken at Chongren (CCAfa) brand.

He pointed out that compared with non-ethnic areas, ethnic areas have distinct regional characteristics, but at the same time they maintain a relatively complete natural ecology, which is rich in biodiversity. However, because ethnic areas are located in the first and second steps of high altitude in China's regional step distribution, their living conditions are harsh and their ecosystem is very fragile. Vegetation in these areas, once destroyed, can easily cause desertification and it is very difficult to recover. Therefore, it is extremely important to protect the ecological environment of ethnic areas. Dr. Zhou stressed in the keynote what is ecological civilization? How to build an ecological civilization? CBCGDF is going through hands-on practice to promote publicity and advocate, and CBCGDF always strives to be on the front line.

Later, experts and scholars from the School of History and Culture of Southwest University, the Central University for Nationalities, the Northwest Plateau Institute of Biology of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, and Inner Mongolia Normal University respectively delivered speeches on "Agricultural Cultural Heritage Protection and Rural Revitalization Strategy" and "Ethnic Ecosystem Diversity", “Sustainable Development”, “Degradation and Ecological Restoration of Alpine Grassland in Sanjiangyuan Area—Theory and Practice”, and “Research on the Operational Mechanism of Inner Mongolia Plateau Grassland Ecosystem”.

The one-day conference – innovative, exciting ideas and reference cases are shared by experts and scholars, and continue to bring surprises and inspiration to the audience. More details will come up via the CBCGDF social media platforms, stay tuned.

At the end of the conference, Dr. Zhou presented awards to eight outstanding young experts who won the CBCGDF Youth Outstanding Report Paper Award and the Youth Outstanding Wall Paper Award.
