Zhou Jinfeng Invited the Producer Makki to Release the Doc. “Back to The Wild” on CMS COP13 | The Conservation of Endangered Scimitar-horned Oryx

On June 20, Dr. Zhou Jinfeng, Secretary-General of China Biodiversity Conservation and Green Development Foundation (CBCGDF) was invited by the embassy of UAE in China to attend the Asian premiere of Back to The Wild held in Beijing Foreign Studies University. Under the theme of the future of wild animal protection in China and UAE, this event aims to promote public awareness of wildlife conservation.

 

Scimitar-horned oryx are listed in Appendix I of Convention on Migratory Species (CMS). Dr. Zhou Jinfeng introduced the upcoming CMS COP13 to the documentary producer, which will be a significant platform for the UAE to showcase its efforts at promoting scimitar-horned oryx conservation and corresponding wild release.

 

Scimitar-horned oryx was added in IUCN Red List of Threatened Species in 1986 and escalated to critically endangered in 1996. Scimitar-horned oryx was announced to be extinct wildly in 2000 due to indiscriminate poaching, habitat loss, and insufficient protection. Over the past 25 years, no one has ever witnessed scimitar-horned oryx in the wild. This will release is UAE's biggest project to help wild animals back to the wild as well as a benchmark for international cooperation on wildlife conservation, aiming to increase the sustainability of wildlife population.

 

As the one and only Chinese member of CMS, CBCGDF received the invitation to CMS COP13 which will be held from February 17 to 22, 2020 in India. CBCGDF will send delegates to participate in and hold side events. Makki appreciated Dr. Zhou’s warm invitation and agreed to attend CMS COP13. Both sides will develop corresponding cooperation.
