On May 23, Dr. Zhou Jinfeng, the Secretary-General of China Biodiversity Conservation and Green Development Foundation (CBCGDF) was interviewed exclusively by a reporter from elite.youth.cn to answer and explain relevant issues on the topic of marine noise pollution and the ways to control this matter.

Marine noise pollution refers to the intensity and frequency noise caused by sonar, ships and mining, affecting the survival and health of a large number of marine lives. Considering that most people are still not very familiar with the concept of “marine noise pollution”, Dr. Zhou specifically interpreted this concept. He said that marine noise pollution has a particularly serious impact on cephalopods such as cetacean marine mammals and squid, and with the continuous expansion and development of economic growth and human activities, marine noise pollution has been increasing in recent years. More and more attention is being paid on a global scale.

At the same time, in China, the proportion of marine noise pollution in various types of pollution should not be underestimated. This is the result of the development of the national economy, such as exploration and tourism. It is inevitable, so we must pay more attention to it and take effective solutions and treatment methods.

CBCGDF's work on marine noise pollution control has not stopped. After several years of collecting relevant information and expert discussions, a proposal of “The Proposal to Adopt Regulations on the Control of Marine Noise Pollution Should be Developed As Soon As Possible” was submitted to the nation's Two Sessions Meetings of NPC and CPPCC in 2018 and received the attention of relevant departments. At the same time, it has been agreed that strengthening relevant legislation, deepening basic research, and raising public awareness are all necessary ways to solve marine noise pollution.

During the interview, Dr. Zhou emphasized that the control of marine noise pollution is an important part of China's ecological civilization construction and needs to be given special attention. Not only that, but also to study noise and recognize noise, in order to effectively reduce noise, improve the environment, and ultimately build a community of shared future for the mankind.

Dr. Zhou also took the topic on the control of marine noise pollution as an entry point and further introduced to the reporter the progress made by CBCGDF in the efforts of pangolins conservation, spotted seals rescue, and relic gulls protection operations. He said that CBCGDF has always been committed to the ecological environmental protection cause together with the people. It is believed that every effort can improve the status quo of the environment and biology to a different extent, and finally realize the vision of bringing a better tomorrow to all living things.

At the end of the interview, Dr. Zhou presented the information on CBCGDF’s work efforts on tackling marine noise pollution to the elite.youth.cn on behalf of CBCGDF and expressed his appreciation for the media's attention to this issue.
