In the morning of June 4, Dr. Zhou Jinfeng, Secretary-General of China Biodiversity Conservation and Green Development Foundation (CBCGDF) visits heads of China Metallurgical Industry Planning and Research Institute, and both sides exchange on ecological civilization, green development, professional standard, etc.

According to Prof. Li, Director of China Metallurgical Industry Planning and Research Institute (MPI), the institute was established in April 1972 approved by the State Council as a national consulting institution. MPI specially engaged in development plan and strategies research of metallurgical industry. It was one of the first engineering consulting institutes with First-grade qualifications. MPI has staff with abundant planning experiences, strong comprehensive quality, and engineering consulting abilities, and the staff has a good understanding of both the state policies and technical theory.

Dr. Zhou speaks highly of the work and achievements achieved by MPI. He also lists several cases to illustrate CBCGDF’s contribution to ecological civilization, green development, and professional standard.

Case 1: The original standard of moon cake makes restrictions on packaging, which have been taken off in the new standard, so the new packaging standard is a retrogression. Unnecessary packaging causes great waste and stress to the environment.

Case 2: Inferior synthetic-rubber sports track will pose significant influence both on teenager health and soil environment. The national standard for sports track published in 2011 fails to meet the requirement of kindergartens, primary and middle schools. In order to create a healthy environment for the youth, CBCGDF has sent letters to the     State Education Commission and schools. Moreover, CBCGDF has sent official letters to the Ministry of Education for a new reasonable standard of sports track. CBCGDF filed environment public interest litigations to attract public attention on toxic tracks. With the joint efforts of CBCGDF and other organizations, the new national standard of Sports Ares with Synthetic Surfaces for Primary and Middle Schools was published in May 2018, which will not only help reduce the damage to health and environment but also promote social development and ecological civilization.

Case 3: business growth and ecological security. CBCGDF has filed a public interest lawsuit against an aluminum mine for its insufficient implement of environmental assessment and subsequent increased risk of geological disasters. CBCGDF asked it to arrange inhabitants according to the environmental assessment and official reply to it.

By citing multiple cases of CBCGDF, Dr. Zhou stresses the significance of ecological civilization and green development in development plan and strategies research of metallurgical industry.

President Xi has highlighted that building an ecological civilization is of fundamental importance for the sustainable development of the Chinese nation. The history of civilizations shows that the rise or fall of a civilization is closely tied to its relationship with nature. In order to promote the economic growth and green development, CBCGDF initiates Global Green Design Conference, calling on nature conservation and harmony between human and nature. Green and sustainable goals can facilitate economic development. Biodiversity and cultural diversity should be attached to equal importance. CBCGDF is willing to join hands with others to redress the imbalance in industrialized civilization, thus achieving sustainable development and building a community with a shared future for mankind.

The dialogue helps both sides to enhance mutual understanding and lays a foundation for future cooperation.
