Recently, Mr. Tim Scott, Senior Adviser of UNDP, visited the China Biodiversity Conservation and Green Development Foundation (CBCGDF). In the meeting, Dr. Zhou Jinfeng, Secretary-General of CBCGDF shared CBCGDF’s work on ecological civilization.

This March, when President Xi Jinping attends a panel discussion with his fellow deputies from Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region at the second session of the 13th National People's Congress in Beijing, he highlighted the need to maintain strategic resolve in enhancing the building of an ecological civilization, to seek high-quality development led by ecology and green development. He said that we should build a strong shield for ecological security and preserve the critical battle against pollution.

Ulanqab of Inner Mongolia took actions in no time and invited CBCGDF to attend a preparatory meeting of the city planning for ecological civilization. In the meeting, Dr. Zhou stressed the importance of including biodiversity index of school into biodiversity education. As for the landscaping, it was suggested to consider biodiversity conservation in the design. He said that the planning must take the capacity of adaptation of the trees and other species. All in all, the construction of ecological civilization must be featured by the harmony of nature and human.

Besides, Dr.Zhou introduced Gross Ecosystem Product, namely GEP, which aimed at specific indicators to measure the total economic value of all ecosystem products and services. So far, it has been applied in several cities.

Mr. Scott showed great interest in GEP and introduced Biodiversity Finance Initiative, or BIOFIN, which will be a hot topic in the upcoming CBD COP15.

He also proposed a few directions for cooperation in CITES COP18, CBD COP15, education, and social campaign.
