The fifteen meeting of the Conference of the Parties of the United Nation’s Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD COP15) will be held in Kunming, Yunnan Province, China in 2020. The international community is paying more and more attention to this international event on the protection of the ecological environment and biodiversity held in China. In the meantime, our country is paying more and more attention to organizing this meeting successfully as well.

Lately, the EU Commissioner for Environment, Maritime Affairs, and Fisheries H.E. Mr. Karmenu Vella visited Beijing. During his stay in Beijing, on 2 April 2019, Dr. Zhou Jinfeng, the Secretary-General of China Biodiversity Conservation and Green Development Foundation (CBCGDF) was invited to a dinner meeting by Mr. Nicolas Chapuis, EU Ambassador to China at Mr. Chapuis’ residence in Beijing, together with Mr. Vella and other honorable attendees.

CBCGDF has been engaged in exchange in the field of the circular economy with international colleagues, such as Circle Economy, Dutch Circular Economy Association and other institutions in the Netherlands. CBCGDF has signed a cooperation agreement with the relevant institution on the circular economy in the Netherlands recently, for further exchanges and cooperation in the field.

At the dinner on 2 April, in addition to sharing CBCGDF’s efforts toward tackling climate change and the promotion on sustainable development transformation at home and abroad, Dr. Zhou also talked about the circular economy and the signing of the agreement news with Mr. Karmenu Vella and Mr. Nicolas Chapuis. They all think it is a very positive thing. On the EU side, it hopes to promote China's relevant legislation on circular economy, and also emphasizes that China and the EU have more strength and potential for cooperation in the field of circular economy, which has a very positive significance for the development of China's circular economy. The successful experience of EU countries in the field of circular economy is very valuable. The EU member states also have a positive attitude towards cooperation with China, all of which paved the way for further cooperation between CBCGDF and the Netherlands.

The EU-related environmental counselors in China attended the dinner. The meeting also talked about the legislative projects and research to promote China's circular economy, and the areas that need to strengthen cooperation also mentioned, even including funds, but did not specifically carry out in depth.
