Zhou Jinfeng Leads CBCGDF Delegation to Attend the Second Global Session of the United Nations Science Policy Business Forum of the Environment

CBCGDF delegation led by Secretary-General Dr. Zhou Jinfeng is currently attending the Second Global Session of the United Nations Science Policy Business Forum of the Environment which holds its sessions at the UN Headquarters in Nairobi from 8 to 10 March 2019 in the lead up to the Fourth Session of the UN Environment Assembly (UNEA4).

 

Recommendations from the Forum inform the UN Environment Assembly and the UN’s work on the Sustainable Development Goals and the Paris Agreement. Panelists and eminent personalities participating in the Forum will have an opportunity to attend the assembly and to contribute to high-level dialogues with Governments and other stakeholders.

 

Participating will be eminent scientists representing top scientific panels and institutions, Nobel laureates, artists, ministers, parliamentarians, industry and business leaders, young game changers in the science and business communities, heads of UN entities and civil society representatives.

 

This year’s Forum will focus on the nexus of science, innovation and entrepreneurship for the environment, and cover six key streams:

 

Science for shaping green policies and market responses;

Foundation for a global digital platform for our planet;

Changing discourse: smarter, greener solutions for cities;

Green technology startup hub;

Innovative solutions on climate challenge: finance, marker and non-State actors; and

Healthy food for a sustainable planet.

 

On 9 March, local time, Dr. Zhou and his party attended an extended session hosted by Thomson Reuters (Part 1) themed on “The Climate Challenge and non-State Actors: Understanding the Challenge”. The esteemed guests including Mr. Xie Zhenhua, Special Representative for Climate Change of China, Timothy Nixon, Chief Sustainability of Thomson Reuters, Carlo Papa, President of Enel Foundation, Maurice Borgeaud, Head of Department of European Space Agency, and Anne Bowser, President of Citizen Science Alliance. The presentations and discussions topics are around including “Citizen Science”, “What is the local impacts of climate change”, and so on.

 

Mr. Xie Zhenhua talked about the great effect of promoting the participation of non-state actors in the government's transparent mechanism. He introduced the regulations passed by relevant Chinese legislation. In the Q&A session, he also talked about some of his experiences in South-South cooperation and mentioned that South-South cooperation is a differentiated responsibility.
