To commemorate the International Biodiversity Day on May 22, to further enhance the awareness of biodiversity conservation in the whole society and create a good atmosphere of caring, supporting and participating in biodiversity conservation, CBCGDF is scheduled to organize "2019 Biodiversity Conservation and Sustainable Development International Forum" on May 21st. It is also warming up for the 15th meeting of the Conference of the Parties to the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD COP15) to be held in Beijing at the end of 2020.

The forum was organized to promote participation in global ecological civilization, build A Community of Shared Future for Mankind, promote biodiversity conservation, and achieve green and sustainable transformation through openness, inclusiveness, innovation, coordination, sustainability and sharing, and to contribute a beautiful China on its own strength.

In this context, on February 22nd, Dr. Zhou Jinfeng, the Secretary-General of CBCGDF and the CBCGDF Forum preparatory team held a telephone work meeting with the world's largest Global Biodiversity Information Facility (GBIF) Deputy Director, Mr. Tim Hirsch and communications manager Mr. Kyle Copas, on the topics including coming to China to participate the Forum.

The two sides expressed their willingness to co-host the relevant parallel forum at the time of the international forum. While expressing their active recognition and support for the ideas and suggestions of the CBCGDF hosted forum, the two international colleagues also indicated that they will propose more detailed plans in accordance with the mutually agreed plan in the near future. The areas they are more concerned about include whether more scientists and technical professionals will participate in the forum; the proportion of Chinese and foreign guests who are invited to participate in the forum. Dr. Zhou and the CBCGDF preparatory team expressed their welcome to invite academic representatives and experts from various fields and various stakeholders, including representatives from international fields, to participate in and build the forum through the GBIF platform. GBIF is an international network and research infrastructure designed to provide open access to all types of life-related data on earth. As an official data publisher of the GBIF platform, CBCGDF and GBIF colleagues jointly host a parallel forum to promote the extension of the influence of the GBIF platform and better development and achieve mutual beneficial cooperation.

The theme of this forum is to integrate ecological civilization into the global biodiversity framework and environmental governance after 2020. While discussing cooperation with GBIF colleagues, including the United Nations Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD), IUCN, SUNx (Strong Universal Network), and the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), as well as colleagues from the DPRK and Africa, have also been invited to attend the forum. At that time, attendees from home and abroad will participate in parallel sub-forums on different topics and will conduct academic exchanges and discussions around the CBD COP15, the global biodiversity framework after 2020, and promote the theme of ecological civilization and sustainable development, to realize the harmonious interoperability of environmental governance.
