On January 31, Dr. Zhou Jinfeng, the Secretary-General of CBCGDF led a team to meet with the relevant head of the Bureau of Fisheries of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs. The two sides held talks on anti-electric fishing and other related work.

 

Dr. Zhou detailed the growth and development of the CBCGDF FDY Fish Protection Center (Oppose Electro Fishing Union). “This is an action that has evolved from an individual’s voluntary behavior to the participation of tens of thousands of volunteers across the country. Anti-electric fishing’s work objectives are consistent with the policies of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs, and more people are involved in the protection of resources of the fishing industry, it is very beneficial to achieve the government's work objectives." Dr. Zhou said that in order to promote the work of anti-electric fishing, CBCGDF will organize the 2019 anti-electric fishing conference. This measure has many advantages. It can not only strengthen the training and awareness of volunteers across the country, but also strengthen the cooperation of enterprises, promote the governance of the source, and build a platform for law enforcement departments to communicate with enterprises and volunteers. The Bureau of Fisheries can support this.

 

The head of the Bureau emphasizes that it is the common responsibility of the government, enterprises, scientific research units and social groups to implement the thought of the President Xi's ecological civilization and promote the construction of ecological civilization in the waters. He fully affirmed the positive contribution of CBCGDF FDY Fish Protection Center in combating electric fishing and protecting aquatic living resources, especially in the major electric fishing cases such as the case involving the sale and purchase of electric fishing equipment by relevant departments in Shaoyang, Hunan Province. He thanked the CBCGDF FDY Fish Protection Center’s important contribution for providing a lot of clues and helpful work suggestions for combating electric fishing. He also said that CBCGDF’s holding the 2019 anti-electric fishing conference, to build a communication platform between the government, enterprises, scientific research units and social groups, and coordinate efforts to combat illegal fishing and fishery resources protection. it is a good thing. He hopes CBCGDF will further play a constructive role in the fight against electric fishing activities in the future.

 

At the end of the meeting, the two sides also exchanged views on the protection of endangered aquatic organisms such as finless porpoises and Baiji dolphins and the construction of marine pastures. The heads of the relevant departments of the Bureau of Fisheries participated in the meeting.
