Recently, member of the CBCGDF Delegation who is attending the current UNFCCC COP24 in Katowice, Poland, and director of the CBCGDF International Working Committee and senior advisor of CBCGDF, Prof. Fred Dubee, met with the DPRK delegation officials. The two sides exchanged views on a wide range of topics such as biodiversity conservation, ecotourism, and afforestation.

During the current UN key meeting with the time and dealing with the global climate crisis, Prof. Dubee said on behalf of CBCGDF that human beings have the potential to cope with natural disasters and the mankind will win. But this requires people to unite, in the same goal, seek common ground while reserving differences, use the power of the whole society, and take effective measures such as local temperature control measures to take concrete actions to deal with the immediate existential risk that human beings have faced. Tackling climate change requires cooperation between countries.

In the interval of Ramsar COP13 held in Dubai in October 2018, CBCGDF Secretary General Dr. Zhou Jinfeng met with representatives of the DPRK delegation. The two sides reviewed the origins of CBCGDF's friendly cooperation with the DPRK and conducted in-depth exchanges around the development of future cooperation. At the beginning of November, the DPRK representatives visited CBCGDF and the two sides continued to communicate around promoting future cooperation. Dr. Zhou said that the protection of migratory species of wild animals requires cooperation across borders and protected areas, and requires concerted efforts from all walks of life.

Dr. Zhou together with Prof. Dubee are both members of the international think tank the Club of Rome. Lately, in response with the UNFCCC COP24, the Club of Rome released its remarkable “The Club of Rome Climate Emergency Plan: A Collaborative Call for Climate Action”. The Club of Rome and its Partners call on all stakeholders – governments, civil society, business – to adopt the action plan, in line with the approach of the Carbon Law Initiative to halve global GHG emissions by 2030 and reach net zero by 2050, and the industrialized countries Paris commitment to provide a minimum of US$100 billion dollars annually to low-income countries in support of low-carbon technology development and adaptation.

During the UN COP24 Climate Change Conference grand opening, the UN Secretary-General António Guterres told over 150 world leaders gathered for climate action that “we are in deep trouble” and asked decision-makers to focus on four key things: stepping up climate action, according to a solid plan, with more funding, as a smart investment in the future of the planet.

The CBCGDF delegation plans to meet with colleagues from various international organizations to discuss how to tackle the climate change emergency and promote future cooperation. Welcome to stay tuned on CBCGDF official Wechat account ChinaGreenExpress, more highlights of this UNFCCC COP24 will be offered.
