Before going to Poland for UNFCCC COP24, Dr. Zhou Jinfeng, the Secretary-General of CBCGDF, met Dr. Silva, the Executive Director of the Inter-American Institute for Global Change (IAI), to discuss a series of global issues.

IAI, established in 1998, is one of three international intergovernmental research networks on global change. Its main goal is to designate and advance research on global change and the influence of the interaction of human activities and to strengthen the connections between science and policy-making processes.

Dr. Silva briefed Zhou Jinfeng on IAI's work in science, science policy, cooperation, and capacity building. As an intergovernmental organization, IAI aimed to advance science projects on global change and provide data and information to policymakers and stakeholders to develop and implement more effective policies to address the challenges of global change. It is not only an outstanding regional organization in science and policy, but also one of the world's most worldwide networks of scientific experts.

Dr. Zhou Jinfeng spoke highly of IAI's efforts to improving people’s understanding of global change phenomena and its socio-economic impacts in line with the principle of full and open exchange of scientific information, and then he introduced the work of CBCGDF in addressing climate change.

Dr. Silva expressed his appreciation and thought that the work of the Green Club was impressive. He asked Zhou Jinfeng for advice and hoped to better reach the decision-makers in China on climate change issue and welcomed CBCGDF and relevant Chinese governments to pay more attention to the work and scientific activities of intergovernmental organizations.

He said that IAI had always believed that there was a need to better understand the natural and social processes that drive large-scale environmental change, and to encourage interaction between scientists and policymakers. It can be said that IAI was a world leader in areas such as science diplomacy. He proposed that he hoped to establish a partnership with CBCGDF.

Dr. Zhou Jinfeng said that CBCGDF would continue to be committed in a deeper participation in global environmental governance. The two sides unanimously expressed their hope that in the future they would like to work together and carry out workshops on science and capacity building to jointly address climate change.
