How should universities and colleges in China to facilitate sustainable development? President Xi Jingping put that a nation will prosper when the young people thrive. A country’s future and people’s hopes depend on the young generations who have their ideals and competence and undertake their responsibilities. Given that, it is all the more important to advocate sustainable concept among young people so as to shape a comprehensive environment of resource conservation and energy consumption intensity reduction.

“Initiated in India, Smart Campus Cloud Network, SCCN is a comprehensive network gathering universities and colleges around the globe. It aims to realize Sustainable Development Goals, SDGs in 2030. Universities and colleges campuses are where nurture young talents who are ambitious, spiritual and competent and willing to take actions. They are top priorities in the development plan. In this connection, “Smart Campus Cloud Network”program, with its commitment to advocating the respect for ecosystem and helping young people to reach their goals, were introduced to campuses in order to provide them with various opportunities to learn and practice. In this way, the development of smart campuses will be able to help to realize Sustainable Development Goals.

Mr. Shende mentioned that the program has been introduced to a few countries including Japan, Brazil, Portugal, and Bhutan and expanded to over 60 networks. He sincerely hopes that more campuses in China will join this program. As there have been more and more exchanges between China and India, Mr. Shende believes that the program will be a brilliant platform for exchanges and cooperation regarding culture, resource and capability. During the form, introduced by Dr. Jinfeng Zhou, Secretary General of CBCGDF, Mr. Shende met the officials of Pu’er provincial government and planned to cooperate with universities and colleges in Pu’er which is known as an ecological and green city.

Mr. Shende praised the enormous contributions in biodiversity conservation and raising public awareness in ecological and environmental protection. A good number of CBCGDF volunteer stations, relevant volunteer activities and promotion of environmental protection knowledge in campuses responded to President Xi’s call for “green campus”.

The tie of states lies in the friendship of their people. Mr. Shende expressed his gratitude to Dr. Zhou for introducing his job to the head of Consulate General of China in Mumbai.

Additionally, he especially appreciated Dr. Zhou’s suggestion of building a SCCN indicator system. Dr. Zhou put that “biodiversity” could function as an indicator for sustainability campus. Before that, Dr. Zhou introduced a few outstanding explorations in this regard, such as the first campus security community in Peking University and the rank list of campus biodiversity published in Shanghai. He also pointed out that biodiversity conservation in densely populated areas must require enough attentions in realizing Sustainable Development Goals.

Following their decision, relevant promotion lectures will be hold in universities and colleges in Beijing. In this way, a smart campus network with Chinese characteristics can be formed by fully knowing their requirements and realities in advance.
