On June 2, 2023, a seminar titled "To Promote a Win-win Situation of ‘Double Carbon’ and Better Health via Tobacco Control" organized by China Biodiversity Conservation and Green Development Foundation (CBCGDF) Tobacco Control Working Group was successfully held in China Science and Technology Hall. Experts in the fields of tobacco control, environmental protection, law, education and health, leaders from the Ministry of Ecology and Environment, National Health Commission, Chinese Center for Disease Control and Prevention, and media representatives were invited to attend the conference. Ma Yong, Deputy Secretary General of CBCGDF, chaired the meeting.

Based on the experience and achievements of tobacco control work, Dr. Zhou Jinfeng, Secretary-General of CBCGDF, said that tobacco control is extremely close to the environment and has a crucial impact on public health and sustainable development. CBCGDF has been long involved in tobacco control work through environmental public interest litigation and other forms, and hopes that we can reach a broader consensus on tobacco control work by discussing related issues and bring into play the characteristics of multi-sectoral linkage, including the environmental sector, to promote the achievement of China's commitment to smoke-free compliance and advance the construction of a beautiful China.

The Working Group on Tobacco Control of CBCGDF showed a public service film on the theme of "Tobacco Control" and made a systematic review and report on the actions, research and practice of tobacco control of CBCGDF. Experts were invited to discuss the issues of increasing the indicators of tobacco control in the "National Ecological Civilization Demonstration Cities and Counties"; continuing to promote the process of comprehensive smoke-free legislation from the perspective of achieving the goal of "double carbon" and strengthening ecological environmental protection and the rule of law; strengthening inter-ministerial, inter-departmental and public communication and platform construction on tobacco control, enhancing publicity and promoting citizen awareness.

Experts at the meeting expressed their views and had an in-depth discussion on tobacco control.

In his concluding remarks, Ma Yong, Deputy Secretary-General of CBCGDF, said that the conference was held to help further build a platform for in-depth communication on tobacco control, and to work together to promote the normalization and high quality of tobacco control work.
