The 3rd National Symposium on Prevention and Control of Cyanobacteria and Ecological Restoration of Aquatic Systems will be held on June 16, 2023, with the support of the China Biodiversity Conservation and Green Development Foundation (CBCGDF)'s OceanWetlands Working Group.

The symposium, which will take place from June 16th to 18th in Hefei, Anhui Province, will focus on topics such as water resources, water environment, water ecosystem management, frontiers and hotspots of cyanobacteria biology research, management and harmless disposal of cyanobacterial blooms, exploration of strategies for the co-management of cyanobacterial blooms and water eutrophication, and monitoring, early warning, and emergency treatment technologies and applications for cyanobacterial blooms and sudden water pollution in rivers and lakes.

 

The symposium is jointly organized by Hehunet, the International Institute of Water Ecology at Yangtze University, the School of Resources and Environmental Sciences at Yangtze University, and the Hubei Key Laboratory of River-Lake Ecological Restoration and Algal Utilization at Hubei University of Technology. The OceanWetlands Working Group of the China Biodiversity Conservation and Green Development Foundation (CBCGDF) is the supporting organization of the symposium.

 

The mission of the OceanWetlands Working Group of CBCGDF is to promote research, academic exchanges, information sharing, scientific communication, and decision-making consultation in the fields of marine, wetlands, and global environmental governance.

 

The background of the symposium is that the control of cyanobacterial blooms has become an important environmental governance issue. Cyanobacterial blooms are a major hazard resulting from eutrophication of lakes, and the harmful substances released during blooms cause serious harm to the water ecosystem, humans, and livestock. The eutrophication of rivers, lakes, and reservoirs, and the degradation of aquatic ecosystems caused by cyanobacterial blooms, are important ecological and environmental problems faced by China and the world. The symposium aims to promote the protection and management of water ecosystems, accelerate the high-quality development of water resources, build a system to realize water ecological civilization, promote the comprehensive green transformation of economic and social development, and achieve harmonious coexistence between humans and nature.

[5]   Exploring the common governance strategies for blue-green algae blooms and eutrophication in water bodies;

[6]   The frontiers and hotspots of blue-green algae biology research;

[7]   Analysis and toxicity assessment of blue-green algae toxins;

[8]   Distribution and persistence of blue-green algae toxins research;

[9]   Regional characteristics and mechanisms of blue-green algae blooms occurrence;

[10] The harm of eutrophication in lake and reservoir water bodies and its prevention and control measures;

[11] The harm of blue-green algae blooms to aquaculture and prevention and control measures;

[12] Research on the technology of recycling blue-green algae resources;

[13] Construction and application cases of the information management platform for blue-green algae blooms;

[14] Research on water ecological and river and lake health evaluation and monitoring technology and ecological spatial management and control technology;

[15] The application of big data in water environment management and restoration;

[16] Analysis and technology for common problems in water resource protection, water environment management, and water ecological restoration;

[17] Introduction and display of new products and technologies, communication and cooperation.
