As China increasingly emphasizes the health of animals, humans, and the environment, the concept of One Health faces unprecedented opportunities and challenges. To promote awareness about One Health in China and cultivate talents in life and health, biodiversity, and environmental science, the “One Health International Forum /2023 IBCOP PC2” will be held as part of the 2023 World Young Scientist Summit series of events, sponsored by the Zhejiang Association for Science and Technology, the Wenzhou Municipal People’s Government, and the China Biodiversity Conservation and Green Development Foundation’s One Health Working Committee, and hosted by Wenzhou-Kean University and the Wenzhou Association for Science and Technology.

The One Health concept aims to mobilize various sectors, disciplines, and communities in society to promote well-being, address threats to health and ecosystems, and solve overall needs for clean water, energy and air, safe and nutritious food, and take actions on climate change to contribute to sustainable development. This conference will focus on fields such as life and health, biodiversity, and environmental science, and invite domestic and foreign experts, scholars, and the youth to come together to put forward ideas and strategies for the sustainable development and talent cultivation of One Health in China and beyond, exchange the latest achievements, share best practices and explore the application and innovation of the health industry.

One Health is an emerging interdisciplinary field which is an important part of global science and environmental governance. It encompasses animal health, human health, and environmental health, which are inherently intertwined and interdependent. In March 2022, the China Biodiversity Conservation and Green Development Foundation (CBCGDF) established the One Health Working Committee to promote a systemic response to multiple global crises.

According to Jinfeng Zhou, secretary general of the CBCGDF, One Health is a novel and highly significant field, and its development and promotion as a discipline holds great meaning. This is especially important in the broader context of scientific and technological specialization and fragmentation that has emerged during the era of industrial civilization. Strengthening interdisciplinary construction of this new field requires dedicated effort and nurturing to drive its development. This is a necessary improvement in the era of ecological civilization, and will make a substantial contribution in the fields of human health and sustainable development.
