The global fashion industry has entered an era of sustainable circular development. The fashion industry is still exploring effective ways to solve the problem of environmental pollution caused by long-term development. Sustainable fashion is not only a challenge but also an opportunity for China's textile and apparel industry. The environmental impact caused by the clothing industry, the rise of green consumption, and the voice of the era of sustainable development urgently require different stakeholders in the industry to take practical actions to speed up the implementation of the circular fashion economy.

The 2022 China Sustainable fashion Forum was held in Shanghai on October 11-12. Dr. Zhou Jinfeng, Secretary-General of China Biodiversity Conservation and Green Development Foundation (CBCGDF), was invited to make a keynote speech "Why is Sustainable Fashion? And Future Trends". Dr. Zhou shared the way of sustainable fashion development.

Humans have gone through four stages: primitive civilization, agricultural civilization, industrial civilization, and ecological civilization. At the stage of primitive civilization, it was fashionable to make a skirt from tiger skin, which proved the strength and achievement of people. But the ecological civilization does not accept this kind of fashion. In the current era of ecological civilization, people's habits and aesthetics will change, and the core of new fashion includes sustainable fashion.

Sustainable fashion refers to the sustainable development of economic and social environment, recycling of resources, green consumption and green life. The most important thing is that our fashion must meet the requirements of ecological civilization, and be responsible and accountable for the three major crises of biodiversity, climate change and public health.

The development of the fashion industry consumes a lot of natural resources, which not only has an impact on the climate, but also has a huge impact on biodiversity. We must rely on industrial civilization, face ecological civilization, transform as soon as possible to create a new fashion of ecological civilization.

Sustainable fashion must address issues of pollution and waste. Some Fast Moving Consumer Goods (FMCG) companies burn out-of-season commodities, causing waste of resources and environmental pollution, which will definitely be eliminated and disappeared in the future. FMCG is not going to be a lasting fashion. Promotional methods to stimulate consumption can solve corporate inventory, but it will cause some consumers to buy unnecessary goods and cause waste, which should not be praised and encouraged.

Sustainable fashion should reduce energy consumption and advocate the 3R principle (reduce, reuse, recycle). It is proposed to use renewable raw materials, such as vegetable fiber raw materials. Through the recycling platform of old objects, the old objects can be reused. These are new fashions, sustainable fashions, and real fashions.

It is proposed to establish green textile and clothing standards that meet the requirements of environmental protection, animal welfare and ecological civilization. We share stories of low-carbon behavior and the fashion industry to reduce carbon, reduce carbon, and protect biodiversity.

Dr. Zhou pointed out that fashion does not fall from the sky, nor is it inherent and innovative in the minds of artists. Fashion is the need for human survival, and it is displayed in the form of fashion to lead everyone. Since Fashion may take the position to lead, it should shoulder a more important responsibility.
