On August 17, 2022, China Biodiversity Conservation and Green Development Foundation (CBCGDF) and the Universidad de Chile signed a memorandum of understanding on cooperation.

Both sides agreed to conduct exchanges and cooperation in biodiversity and environmental protection. At the same time, two sides will work to enhance understanding between Chinese people and Latin American people and build a bridge of communication for enhancing exchanges and friendship between the  peoples.

Dr. Zhou Jinfeng, Secretary-General of CBCGDF, pointed out that the signing of the memorandum of understanding on cooperation between CBCGDF and Universidad de Chile is a significant step for the Latin American part of CBCGDF South-South Biodiversity Science Project (SSBSP).

The South-South Biodiversity Science Project was established by CBCGDF on May 31, 2021. It aims to actively carry out scientific research and conservation cooperation on biodiversity for developing countries, such as the conservation of orangutans in Southeast Asia, the monitoring of desert locusts and grassland armyworm, and the international assistance for crisis in Madagascar.

At the beginning of March 2022, the secretariat of CBCGDF held two working meetings, one on the work of Africa and the other on Latin America, which made arrangements on how to further implement and support biodiversity conservation and scientific cooperation in developing countries. This is also CBCGDF’s specific action in response to the call of the "Kunming Biodiversity Fund".
