Dr. Zhou Jinfeng's acceptance speech: Life comes from water, and so does human civilization. If the development of China’s splendid civilization is inseparable from the nourishment of the Yellow River and the Yangtze River, then the Grand Canal, as an artificial river, is the result of China’s social and economic development to a certain extent, and it is also a symbol of economic and social prosperity. The Grand Canal has experienced the era of agricultural civilization, the great development of capital in the era of industrial civilization, and now is coming to a turning point in the development of the era of ecological civilization. The change of civilization, the mission of the Grand Canal, especially how people should treat the Grand Canal correctly, all these are issues that we need to think about. Now that we have entered the era of ecological civilization, we need to review and treat the Grand Canal in a new way, put ecological environment in the first place, and think about the development of the Grand Canal and its surroundings. Think of it as a whole, rather than divided by administrative divisions or different industries, just like our management and protection of the entire basin of the Yellow River and the Yangtze River. The same should be true for the management, protection and development planning of the Grand Canal. This is the requirements of ecological civilization construction.

Finally, Dr. Zhou Jinfeng emphasized that we must pay more attention to biodiversity. The Grand Canal is an important ecosystem with many functions: the habitat and reproduction of species, as well as the transmission of rich genes. At the same time, it also affects and changes people's living environment. For the Grand Canal projects that has been built, including various construction projects around the canal, we should pay attention to and do a good job in biodiversity monitoring and evaluation. For some canal projects under construction, we should evaluate its scientificity and necessity. When assessing, make sure to put ecological environment in the first place, and do a good job in biodiversity impact assessment. New ecological prosperity leads to civilization prosperity. Doing a good job in protecting the ecological environment of the Grand Canal is also an important part of our ecological civilization construction. It is expected that the Grand Canal Think Tank will give full play to its professional leading role in this regard, and that with the joint efforts of all think tank experts, the influence and core competitiveness of the "China Grand Canal Think Tank Alliance" will be further enhanced in a better and more sustainable manner.
