The South-South Forum was initiated in 2011 by Prof. WEN Tiejun and Prof. LIU Jianzhi. With the concept of sustainable practice and diversified ecological civilization, based on the experience and reality of developing countries, the forum aims to promote the widespread development of alternative practices, dialogues and exchanges in the world, to form a South-South diversified cooperation mode, and to seek new ways of inclusive and sustainable practice under the challenges of globalization.

On July 15, Dr. ZHOU Jinfeng, Deputy Chairman and Secretary General of CBCGDF, delivered a keynote speech on ecological civilization and South-South cooperation. Prof. WEN Tiejun and Hernán José VARGAS PéREZ, Minister of Communes and Social Movements of Venezuela, attended the forum as guests.

Two guests responded to the speech in professional perspective. Professor WEN Tiejun said: Under the current ecological system with diverse resources and production methods, there are still many problems to be solved and improvements to be made in the protection of agricultural cultural heritage and ecological environmental protection. In the fields of ecological protection and green sustainable development, there is indeed a long way to go. Developing countries need to find their own paths for development.

CBCGDF has established extensive cooperation with Latin American enterprises and scientific research institutions, and is also expanding relevant cooperation networks. Minister Vargas said: “We need to face the challenges, protect all the earth's creatures, deal with the global ecological civilization crisis and food crisis. How to combine social civilization and ecological civilization is a topic that needs extensive discussion.” In response to Minister Vargas' comments, Dr. ZHOU Jinfeng then gave a more detailed explanation on South-South cooperation and put forward some constructive proposals.

The protection of biodiversity under ecological civilization is not only for the endangered species, but covers a wide range from micro level to macro level, including genetic diversity protection, species diversity protection, ecosystem diversity protection, as well as the concept of harmonious coexistence between man and nature. To sum up, this protection of earth for all is the most fundamental need of ecological civilization, whether in China or Latin America.
