On June 20, 2022, at the invitation of H.E. Moin ul Haque, Ambassador of Pakistan to China, China Biodiversity Conservation and Green Development Foundation (CBCGDF), Dr. Zhou Jinfeng, Secretary-General of CBCGDF, Prof. Huang Wenjiang, Researcher of Aerospace Information Research Institute, Chinese Academy of Sciences, and delegates of CBCGDF visited the Embassy of Pakistan in Beijing and met with Ambassador H.E. Moin ul Haque.

H.E. Moin ul Haque, Ambassador warmly welcomed the guests and expressed appreciation and encouragement for the progress made in traditional cooperation areas such as industry and agriculture between China and Pakistan as well as the scientific and technological communities. He mentioned that "green" has become a buzzword. Both China and Pakistan are vigorously advocating green development, and China is leading the world in green and sustainable development. H.E. Excellency Ambassador thanked for China's assistance in Pakistan's agricultural projects and green projects, such as the construction of water power stations, and expressed his expectation that the cooperation projects would become more intelligent. The Ambassador is also interested in the progress of scientific and technological cooperation in food security, wetland protection and biodiversity, which are important aspects of biodiversity and ecological environment protection. The Ambassador highlighted the ongoing Ten Billion Tree Tsunami Project, which has received support from the World Bank and other international financial institutions, and is an important part of Pakistan's efforts to support the work of UN Decade and ecosystem restoration.

Dr. Zhou expressed his gratitude to the Ambassador for his introduction, and briefly introduced the history of CBCGDF, which has long been committed to biodiversity conservation and green development, and advocating low carbon. Dr. Zhou Jinfeng mentioned that China and Pakistan are both developing countries with many common and similar needs. Scientific cooperation and people-to-people exchanges have promoted international cooperation on the Green Belt and Road initiative and the high-quality construction of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor. As a national first-class academic society, CBCGDF has established extensive cooperation with many developing countries in biodiversity protection. Dr. Zhou Jinfeng welcomed H.E. Moin ul Haque to visit CBCGDF, including international exchanges and cooperation in science and technology, biodiversity protection, agriculture and low carbon. Many Pakistani cities have established sister-city relations with Chinese cities. CBCGDF has set up more than 180 community-based protected areas across the country, which can also contribute to consolidating the friendship between cities of the two countries, creating more innovative practices in biodiversity conservation and promoting green and low-carbon development. Under the global trend and reality of biodiversity mainstreaming and green development, the construction and operation of various large-scale infrastructures, such as roads and shipyards, have been given a higher degree of attention to biodiversity conservation, and all stakeholders are participating in the expression of opinions and feedback, and CBCGDF has been invited to participate in the evaluation of many biodiversity conservation projects. In addition, CBCGDF has established long-term cooperation with the State Grid, and set a great example for resolving bird-wire conflicts and protecting energy stability and security, achieving the balance between human and nature, as well as between biodiversity conservation and sustainable development by perfectly practicing the idea of “Biodiversity Conservation in Our Neighborhood (BCON)”.

In terms of agriculture, Zhou affirmed Pakistan's achievements in agriculture and introduced international exchanges and cooperation in agricultural cultural heritage and food security. Zhou also introduced the Joint project of CBCGDF and the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), which aims to leverage the power of national public foundations and national institutes to promote the development of clean energy such as solar energy to benefit more Pakistani people. Dr. Zhou Jinfeng mentioned the importance of implementing ecological civilization in promoting the green “Belt and Road Initiative”. At the first session of the 15th Conference of the Parties to the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD COP15) in 2021, Chinese leaders announced the launch of the Kunming Biodiversity Fund to support biodiversity conservation in developing countries, which is encouraging. In this context, CBCGDF has launched the “South-South Biodiversity Science Project (SSBSP to support developing countries in promoting biodiversity conservation through the use of science and technology, such as the Madagascar Crisis and other international assistance and cooperation projects.

Huang Wenjiang, a researcher of Aerospace Information Research Institute, Chinese Academy of Sciences, introduced the long-term cooperation between the scientific communities of China and Pakistan. The Chinese Academy of Sciences and Pakistan jointly established the "China-Pakistan Earth Science Research Center", which has carried out a lot of cooperative research. According to the Statistics of Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), plant diseases and insect pests have caused up to 40% of the global crop failure, resulting in a loss of over 220 billion US dollars. In particular, invasive species such as desert locust and Fall armyworm have seriously threatened global food security. It is one of the important reasons for the decrease of grain production and environmental degradation in Pakistan. The global invasion of alien organisms, crop diseases and insect pests and other biosecurity problems have caused serious harm to the economy and society. Huang Wenjiang, a researcher at the leading research and development of the global plant diseases and insect pests of vegetation remote sensing monitoring and forecasting system, the plant diseases and insect pests in the global vegetation remote sensing monitoring and forecast report issued, the results by Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), Global Biodiversity Information Facility (GBIF), Group on Earth Observations (GEO) and other international organizations adopt and globally Shared. Moin ul Haque, the fruitful results and promising prospects of China-Pakistan cooperation in food security and biodiversity monitoring with detailed illustrated case series.

H.E. Moin ul Haque said that all these are important for bilateral agriculture and what Pakistan really needs. And to the detailed introduction of Dr. Zhou Jinfeng and researcher Huang Wenjiang gave positive response one by one, such as the use of remote sensing technology to control desert locusts is an important biodiversity assistance and technical assistance. H.E. Moin ul Haque also expressed great expectations for the construction of a high-quality green economic corridor and hoped to conduct further exchanges and practical cooperation in this regard.

After the discussion, H.E. Moin ul Haque invited Dr. Zhou Jinfeng and Prof. Huang Wenjiang to visit the display wall marking the 70th anniversary of China-Pakistan diplomatic relations in 2021 in the Lobby of the Embassy and presented Dr. Zhou with the book "Best Faiz Poems in his Own Voice". The author of this book, Faiz Ahmed Faiz, is an outstanding progressive poet in Pakistan and a master of Urdu poetry in the 20th century. The book is also a tribute to mark the 70th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic ties between China and Pakistan.
