On May 13, 2022, China Biodiversity Conservation and Green Development Foundation (CBCGDF) received a letter from the Portuguese Embassy in China regarding the agenda for the 2022 United Nations Ocean Conference and the Sustainable Blue Economy Investment Forum.The letter is shared as follows:

Dear China Biodiversity Conservation and Green Development Foundation:

Hope this letter finds you well. We would like to take this opportunity to inform you that the United Nations Ocean Conference (UNOC) will be held in Lisbon from 27 June to 1 July, 2022.

UN Ocean Conference 2022, co-hosted by the governments of Portugal and Kenya, comes at a critical time as the world grapples with the many deep-rooted social problems that have been exposed since the onset of the Covid-19 pandemic, which requires major structural transformation and joint solutions based on the SDGs. To mobilize action, the conference will seek to advance much-needed innovative science-based solutions to open a new chapter in global ocean action. The only form of participation in the Ocean Conference is offline on-site participation. Depending on the type and qualification of enterprises and entities, the deadline for registration will vary.

If you wish to attend this event, please visit the official website of the United Nations Ocean Conference as early as possible. After confirming your participation, logistical support may be provided, therefore, the Portuguese Embassy in China would like you to inform us of the names and positions of your designated participants, as well as information on whether you need logistical support. The 2022 Sustainable Blue Economy Investment Forum will also hold four special events during the United Nations Ocean Conference. Among them, the 2022 Sustainable Blue Economy Investment Forum (SBEIF), hosted by the Portuguese Economic, Trade and Investment Promotion Agency, will be held in Lisbon on June 28. And the forum will be held at 9:30 p.m. Beijing time online and offline at the same time.

Attached to this letter is the agenda and concept note for the 2022 Sustainable Blue Economy Investment Forum. In addition to the Sustainable Blue Economy Investment Forum (SBEIF), the following 3 special events will take place: Local Action for the Ocean - Local and Regional Governments: Time: 25 June, Location: Matosinhos, Portugal; Youth and Innovation Forum - Time: June 24-26, Location: Cascais, Portugal; High-Level Workshop on Water Issues - Linking SDG 6 and SGD 14 - Time: June 24-26 Location: City of Cascais, Portugal. The Portuguese Embassy in China welcomes relevant Chinese institutions, organizations and businesses to actively participate in this high-level event, which will focus on the blue ecosystem and bring together governments, NGOs and businesses.

Taking into account the current international travel restrictions in many places, including China, Portugal welcomes all Chinese VIPs to participate as much as possible in online events, including the 2022 Sustainable Blue Economy Investment Forum. For the offline live events, we kindly ask you to arrange as far as possible your organization's current expatriate staff in Portugal and Europe, as there are currently no travel restrictions in Europe.
