On May 9, Professor Geoffrey Lipman, Chairman and Co-Founder of SUNx, a global universal network, conducted in-depth exchanges with Deputy Secretary-General of China Biodiversity Conservation and Green Development Foundation (CBCGDF) on the compilation and publication of the Chinese translated version of the great work "LEGACY FOR THE FUTURE AND FUTURE GENERATIONS: REMEMBERING MAURICE F. STRONG - TRIBUTES AND REMINISCENCES".
After discussion, they agreed that CBCGDF would do the translation for the book, and be responsible for its publication and distribution in China.
Maurice Strong (1929-2015), an expert on world environmental issues, a pioneer in environmental protection, the former Under-Secretary-General of the United Nations and the first Executive Director of the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), and a forever mentor and friend of CBCGDF. Mr. Strong is not only the founder and promoter of global environmental governance and sustainable development, but also an important mentor to many NGOs in the field of global sustainable development.
Thanks to Mr. Strong's efforts, the Stockholm Conference in 1972 achieved historic results. The General Assembly adopted the “Declaration on the Human Environment” and the “Action Plan”, which identified the environment as the core issue of development. The meeting also approved the establishment of the United Nations Environment Programme, and decided to set it up in Nairobi, the capital of Kenya, with Mr. Strong as its first Executive Director.
When the global environmental negotiations were launched, both the Stockholm Conference and the Rio Conference had a difficult start, but the final results were fruitful. This was precisely because Mr. Strong had turned the impossible into the possible.
CBCGDF had the honor to participate in the compilation of the book at the invitation of the European Center for Peace and Development (ECPD), the presiding editor of the book.
In the book “Legacy for the Future and Future Generations: Remembering Maurice F. Strong - Tributes and Reminiscences”, the chapter authored by CBCGDF is entitled “A Mentor and a Friend Forever: Maurice Strong 's Love for China” （《永远的导师和朋友---莫里斯·斯特朗对中国的爱》）
Good news is that the translation of the book is now in process. And hope for next discussion with Geoffrey Lipman and ECPD.
