The delegate of the Chemicals Working Group of CBCGDF Wired Dr. Elisabeth Mrema, Executive Secretary of CBD
On the evening of March 27, 2022, the Chemicals Working Group of China Biodiversity Conservation and Green Development Foundation (CBCGDF) was invited to participate in the side event of the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD). The theme of the side event was “chemicals, waste and biodiversity”. Delegate of the Chemicals Working Group of CBCGDF had an online exchange with Dr. Elizabeth Mrema, Executive Secretary of CBD. Both sides agreed that it is highly important to strengthen international cooperation on issues related to global environmental governance.
Elizabeth Maruma Mrema, female, Tanzanian nationality, was born on January 5, 1957 in Moses District, Kilimanjaro Region, Tanzania. She is a prominent biodiversity governance leader in the contemporary global environmental governance arena, a professional lawyer and a career diplomat. In 2020, she was appointed by the UN Secretary-General:António Guterres as the Executive Secretary-General of the United Nations Convention on Biological Diversity. She is the first African woman in history to hold this position. She is also a volunteer of China Biodiversity Conservation and Green Development Foundation.
