Professor Alice Hughes, Deputy secretary general of CBCGDF and Professor/Principal Investigator at Xishuangbanna Tropical Botanical Garden, Chinese Academy of Sciences will be one of the distinguished speaker for the Inaugural Drylands Dialogue:Post-2020 Biodiversity and Climate. Come and join us on Jan.5-6, 2022 !

Drylands constitute about 41% of the Earth’s land surface and are home to over 38% of the world’s population. Drylands support one third of the Global Conservation Hotspot Areas and they are home to at least 28% of endangered species. Particularly vulnerable to environmental change, biodiversity conservation and sustainability in drylands are crucial. During the second part of the 15th meeting of the Conference of Parties to the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD COP15), final version of Post-2020 Global Biodiversity Framework(GBF) will be adopted. It is meaningful to speak up for drylands and add the related biodiversity and climate issues to the Framework to achieve the goal of building a shared future for drylands areas.

Post-2020 Global Biodiversity Framework is a new ambitious goal after Aichi targets, also as a supplementary tool to the implementation of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable development. To achieve the Convention’s vision of “living in harmony with nature by 2050”, the Framework will be calling for actions of all walks of life.

To draw attention of the GBF to dryland areas, China Biodiversity Conservation and Green Development Foundation will hold the inaugural Dryland Dialogue: Post-2020 Biodiversity and Climate on 5-6 Jan., 2022, right before the CBD Open Ended Working Group on Post 2020. The results of this event will also be submitted to the CBD secretariat to address our points.

Together, we can agree and act right now to mitigate and adapt to climate change. Realize the vision of living in harmony with nature by 2050.

We would be glad to receive your acceptance hence will be glad to provide you with more details for the participation confirmation. We appreciate your time and look forward to hearing from you.
