CBCGDF's Statement on Implementation of the mandates of the CITES SC WG on IPLC engagement
2021/10/15 11:21:00 本站

CBCGDF appreciates the Chair's and the Secretariat's diligent work on finding ways forward. As China and  CBCGDF just wrapped up the CBD CoP15 here, we are keenly aware that the engagement of IPLC is more important than ever as marginalized communities are among the groups most affected by biodiversity loss and overexploitation of natural resources. CBCGDF would call for a prudent approach which would give WG members sufficient time to address the issues laid out Decision 18.31, rather than outsourcing to a consultant and rushing to develop a work product for the sake of expedience.

CBCGDF is thus not in favor of a consultancy. As a relatively newcomer to the CITES process, we would like to fully contribute to the discussion of the IPLC issue and therefore would support the extension of the WG's mandate beyond CoP19. We would also like some clarity from the Secretariat about the joint meeting of the WP on IPLC Engagement and Livelihoods. Thank you for the opportunity to comment. Many thanks again to the Chair and the Secretariat as well as WG members' contributions.
