On September 14, before the Mid-Autumn Festival, the Legal Department of China Biodiversity Conservation and Green Developement Foundation has organized an online seminar on Over-packaging of mooncakes——the case of ShangXinghua Lou in Shanghai. Experts from ecological protection, food and nutrition, consumer protection and law were invited to join the discussion.
At the seminar, Zhou Jinfeng, Secretary General of CBCDGF, delivered a speech, the content of which is compiled and shared as follows.
Thank you very much to this seminar to discuss the over-packaging of mooncakes. We have been working on this issue in the past few years, but no solution has been reached. Environmental pollution made by mooncake over-packaging has is unbearable under this unprecedented change of ecological civilization.
Last year, president Ci has stressed that the over-packaging of mooncake, but no effective solutions has been reached. The standards of mooncake packaging are set by mooncake tycoons and the industry association. This year, Requirements of restricting excessive package-Foods and cosmetics has been released, but it will wait until 2030 to be fully implemented.
All these years, we have been reporting to relative departments on this issue. We are glad to see the publication of national standards to address the issue of over-packaging. But these are not enough. With the current standard, Shanghai Xinghualou Group is one of the rule maker. But they have broken the rules they made.
Even if they did not violate their own standards, they should be held responsible for the irreversible harm to the environment caused by over-packaging.
The ruling of the court was a surprise. We think relative department need more knowledge of ecological civilization and today's climate change and biodiversity crisis.
In order to achieve dual carbon goals, the whole country is sparing no effort. Just imagine the carbon foot print made by the mooncake over-packaging from production to household dust bin.
