Distinguished teachers, Dear students,

Good morning!

It is my great honor and pleasure to joint you today for this exciting model conference on climate change.

Last week, the UNSG Antonio Guterres issued a report to the 75th GA Our Common Agenda. It gave a picture of the road in the next 25 years, a vision on creatig new feature on cooperation, rebuilding inclusiveness, networking, fruitful multilateralism.

Dear students, this report was issued at the critical time when our human being is at the historic turning point. We are facing severe and pressing choices: Moving further to collapse? Or making  break-through to a greener, safer and better future ? I believe our conference today is an positive feedback to the UNSG’s report.

For preparing this model conference, you might learn the rules and procedures of UN meetings, read a lot of background papers on UNFCCC, some communique, bulletin, summary, meeting minutes by the diplomatic groups and stakeholders, and collect some relevant information such as on marine and environment.

You know these papers and information will be your strongly supporting proof for demonstration when you joint the debate in the negotiations. No doubt, this will enhance your learning skill for hunting knowledge and ability for seeking solution to resolve the differences and problems in the negotiations .

More important, our model conference is a clear message to the public, or it should say , to the world: We, the Chinese youth, concern and follow the climate change issues. For the future we want, we are taking action.

As to the climate governance, the Chinese government stands that, the international community should stick to the principle of common but differentiated responsibility, the principle of equity and the principle of respective capability. This model conference is a practical exercise before you are going to the international platform to stick to these principles and uphold justice and equity in the days to come.

IPCC issued its report on 9th August, 2021, it reflected the progress made in scientific awareness of climate, it provides essential source material for climate negotiations and policy-making. But the worrying fact is, before the coming COP26, only 110 out of 191 parties presented its new or renewed the Intended Nationally Determined Contributions(INDCs). Why? What happened? I hope, dear students could find out some reasons behind in the process of this model conference.

Today is Sunday, a holiday too. In order to build up your  capacity to serve the motherland and the world as well, you are working here and now. Excellent! You are the future of China. You are the future of the world.

Finally, wish our model conference a big success.

Wish you all have a bumper harvest from it.

Thank you.
