To give full play to the advantages of Xichang's rich bird resources, display the good ecological image of the city and improve the social-ecological concept, the Municipal Party Committee and Municipal Government of Xichang recently launched the bird selection activity in Xichang. China Biodiversity Conservation and Green Development Foundation (CBCGDF) Birds Biodiversity Conservation Work Committee authorized by the bureau of Xichang Forestry and Grassland, invited CBCGDF bird expert Mr. Hu Huijian who served as the team leader on the expert's demonstration, together with other domestic birds experts, with reference to the network voting, jointly determine the Xichang City's bird.

Hu Huijian is currently working at the Institute of Zoology, Guangdong Academy of Sciences and the director of Guangdong Wildlife Survey and Monitoring and Ecological Restoration Engineering Technology Center. Mr. Hu is one of the experts who have conducted the most scientific surveys of wildlife resources in China. His work has covered all provinces and regions of China, including the Himalayan Mountains in Tibet, and expanded to Southeast Asia. He was the first expert to put forward urban animal restoration and put it into practice in China. He created a precedent of "urban wildlife restoration" in Guangzhou and won the title of "Innovation Hero of Guangzhou". His research interests include biodiversity composition at a large spatial scale, ecological restoration of animals, prevention and control of bird strikes at airports, tail feather evolution of birds, and artificial propagation of swiftlet.

August 18, the CBCGDF bird experts and experts from Shanghai Fudan University, Sichuan University, together with the Xichang representatives of NPC and CPPCC, joint expert group, combined with the list of 10 bird species shortlisted in the first round of the preliminary audition and the online votes of the second round of the public social evaluation, the expert group made a serious evaluation and demonstration based on the scoring rules, the living habits and appearance of different birds, and the local history, culture and natural ecology of Xichang city. In the end, three selected birds, namely, the Chinese Monal (Lophophorus lhuysii), the Western swamphen (Porphyrio porphyrio) and the Lady Amherst's pheasant (Chrysolophus amherstiae), are all local species with beautiful colors and beautiful meanings. 

According to the relevant work process of bird selection in Xichang City, the three selected birds will be reported to the executive meeting of Xichang City government for final study and determination of the ownership of the city bird. To be elected Xichang city bird, who do you like?
