On August 18, Zhou Jinfeng, vice president and Secretary General of CBCGDF held a late night meeting with an agents to discuss the potential cooperation direction on marine protection and carbon emission standard setting.

The director said that they learned from the internet platform that CBCGDF has made great effort in the field of marine protection in the past, and they really hope to cooperate with CBCGDF, offer a love for the protection of biodiversity and practice corporate social responsibility.

Then Dr. Zhou introduced CBCGDF’s work in the protection of spotted seals and sea grass beds. Among them, in the spotted seal project, CBCGDF has taken six specific measures, including going deep into the fishing village to carry out popular science publicity, carrying out marine patrol to prevent poaching, propaganda on many social media platforms, supervising the "poaching order" of local aquariums, watching spotted seal activities and live coverage, habitat biodiversity maintenance combined with offshore bird protection and so on.

Dr. Zhou also mentioned that although as a migratory animal, spotted seals only appear in the northern waters of China during the breeding period from January to March every year, the protection work should be adhered to all year round, because it is also crucial to the overall maintenance of their habitat.

In terms of sea grass bed protection, Dr. Zhou said that it is not difficult to understand that the protection of marine organisms mentioned in the past often focuses on marine animals, but sea grass beds, plants and microorganisms of great strategic significance to the sustainable development of marine ecology, have been ignored for a long time. Scholars are increasingly aware that sea grass bed is the lung of the ocean, and its carbon sequestration and other effects are indispensable to the marine environment and human living environment.

While CBCGDF has been paying close attention to this for many years. In 2020, CBCGDF suggested that a marine reserve should be established and included in the world natural heritage declaration on the sea grass bed in Caofeidian, Tianjin. However, the protection of sea grass bed is difficult and meaningful because of its high cost and extreme variability of results, and the restoration work takes several years to take effect. He also pointed out some "pseudo ecological restoration" projects, saying that this kind of facade project is really terrible

In addition, Dr. Zhou also told them that CBCGDF is currently working on the formulation of enterprise carbon emission standards. He hopes that the agent, as an excellent representative of the industry, can offer suggestions, share experience and contribute wisdom with CBCGDF in the process of realizing the double carbon goal.

After the meeting, the two sides will further finalize the specific direction and implementation steps of cooperation. Here, CBCGDF also sincerely invites people of insight from all sectors of society to join hands with us to offer love and strength for the protection of marine biodiversity and the sustainable green development of our homes.
