Recently, Grant Borden was invited to participate in the World Elephant Day activity organized by CBCGDF and Elephant Protection Initiative (EPI) on August 12.

Grant Borden is currently a special adviser on human elephant conflict at the elephant protection initiative foundation in Africa. He has nearly 20 years of experience in the management of protected areas in East Africa. Previously, as a member of the elephant international working group of the green society, he actively brainstormed for the construction of elephant reserves in Yunnan.

In an interview, he expressed his opinions on reasonable resolution of human image conflict. “To see growing elephant populations in range states, with enough managed space for them to occupy. At the same time, we need to raise the awareness of HEC at a global stage, so that we have the resources to implement successful mitigation and prevention of HEC, for the benefit of communities.”

For the question that what makes him optimistic about animal protection in the face of many threats to wildlife protection in Africa, he said that “I’m motivated by what my children will experience in the future, and also what I can share with them now. It puts a lot of the challenging work that we do into perspective. I also think there is almost a selfish element to what I do. I’m driven by my love for wild places and functioning ecosystems, and desire to be in them, it's a dream for me to experience moments of wilderness across Africa.”

The international elephant expert working group of CBCGDF, bringing together many experts in elephant research, was supported by John Scanlon, chairman of Global Initiative to End Wildlife Crime and former Secretary General of Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora (CITES). It was also endorsed by a large number of experts from the United States, Africa and Asia for its timely discussion of Yunnan elephants. We are looking forward to Mr. Grant Burden's speech on the elephant topic. Please continue to pay attention to the Green Media for more information about world elephant day activities.
