On the occasion of 100 days from the 26th UN Climate Change Conference of the Parties (COP26) in Glasgow, United Kingdom, the China Biodiversity Conservation and Green Development Foundation (CBCGDF) has been acknowledged as an eligible organization for admission of COP26.

This time, CBCGDF team will participate as an observer to consider and discuss the implementation rules of the Paris Agreement, actively speak out and interpret the impact of biodiversity on climate change.

Previously, CBCGDF team also participated in COP24. We hope that in the context of the pandemic, CBCGDF can successfully organize Chinese enterprises in Europe and talents in the UK to participate in COP26, hold side meetings and actively participate in global governance.

Letter text:

Dear colleagues,

We would like to you thank you for your application for admission to UNFCCC as an observer organization, and also for your kind patience with our prolonged assessments.

This is a message being sent to all applicants whose applications have been assessed by the UNFCCC secretariat as having met the criteria as an eligible organization for admission. The secretariat is recommending your organization to the COP Bureau for “provisional admittance”.

Please note that the “formal admission” still rests with the COP itself. This step for provisional admittance is necessary as a basis for the eligible organizations to start preparation for participation in COP 26, because your organization is technically not an admitted organization until the COP formally admits it at its 26th session (COP 26) and does not have the basis on which to start the preparation (such as registration, visa, flights, accommodation, etc). By the time the formal admission is obtained, it would be too late to for those logistical arrangements.

Once the COP Bureau grants your organization the provisional admittance status, the secretariat will inform you of the next steps particularly about the registration for COP 26 which is linked with visa application process for those this is relevant.

Assuming all of our recommendations are accepted by the COP Bureau, the deadline for registration is 31 August 2021, where the designated contact points (DCP) of your organization would be notified of the opening of the online registration system for COP 26. We will inform your organization as soon as we hear from the COP Bureau about the results of their deliberation. This is expected early August 2021. This means, if the COP Bureau agrees to our recommendations, your organization will have a few weeks of window for registration for COP 26, in the same manner with the other observer organizations who have been admitted before.

Hope this is helpful and please let us know if you have any questions.

Yours sincerely,

Observer Relations Team
