At 3 p.m. Beijing time on July 27, the UN Food Systems pre-summit ministerial round table forum "facing the challenge: transforming the food system to achieve the sustainable development goals" was held in Rome. Representatives of various countries shared and discussed the practical experience of national and regional food system transformation. The International Department of CBCGDF was invited to participate and broadcasted the meeting situation synchronously on Baidu and the microblog platform, with over 6000 individuals participating online on both platforms.

The forum focused on promoting the transformation of the food system at the national level to achieve sustainable development goals. Representatives of China, the Philippines, Fiji, Nepal, Bangladesh, Honduras, Mali, Malaysia, Egypt, Ghana, Cambodia, Norway and other countries spoke at the meeting.

The Minister of Agriculture and Farmer Welfare of India shared India's experience. Since 2019, the Indian government has considered providing financial support to farmers and helping farmers solve seasonal unemployment.

The representative of Fiji mentioned that forestry played an important role in the food system. Fiji has been emphasizing the development of forestry for 40 years. All departments should work together to allow farmers to participate in the transformation of the food system fully. 


The national representative of Nepal introduced how Nepal has achieved the transformation of the food system. At the same time, he mentioned that Nepal's resources are limited that 6 million people are facing food insecurity. The food insecurity among them is also different. 32% of children under the age of 5 are facing the problem of poor nutrition.

The representative of Egypt believes that the transformation of the food system is essential. At present, Egypt is facing the problem of insufficient food supply and food loss. It is suggested that all stakeholders jointly promote healthy and sustainable food system transformation. 


The representative of Malaysia introduced Malaysia's national strategy for 2020-2030, the national economic recovery plan, the food security financing fund, etc., with particular emphasis on women's participation in the transformation of the food system.

Ambassador Guang Defu, permanent representative of China to FAO, shared China's experience. He pointed out that it is of great significance to jointly explore the transformation of the food system and promote sustainable development in the context of COVID-19. The Chinese government attaches great importance to food and agricultural production and feeds 21% of the world's population with 7% of the world's land. 


In order to ensure food security in China and the world, China is willing to work together with countries all over the world, dealing with the problem of global food hunger. China will continue to adhere to international multilateralism, win-win cooperation, sustainable and all-around development, and make Chinese contributions to food security and human poverty reduction.
