On the evening of July 19, 2021, the CBCGDF International Team held an online meeting with SEED Madagascar and the US Green Chamber of Commerce (USGCC) to discuss the progress of the Madagascar crisis project and future cooperation.

First of all, Ms. Michelle Thatcher, CEO and co-founder of the US Green Chamber of Commerce, welcomed all participants. Then Mark Jacob, the project leader of SEED organization, introduced the working relationship with Madagascar. SEED Madagascar witnessed the outbreak of this serious crisis in Madagascar. In December 2020, Madagascar began to produce famine due to drought; in April 2021, SEED found 575 children with severe acute malnutrition (SAM) or moderate acute malnutrition (MAM) in 7 target communities. And pointed out that this is an urgent crisis that needs to be resolved extensively.


According to the person in charge of the SEED Madagascar project, Madagascar lacks many basic living materials, including water purification, medical care, education and other resources. The local food crisis has a great impact on the forest and other ecosystems. In this context, SEED has stepped forward to getting in touch with the local government and hospitals and has supported more than 40 communities and more than 600 families in Madagascar in the past six months.


Then, the representative of the International Department of the CBCGDF introduced the basic situation and the latest progress of the Madagascar crisis assistance project. At the same time, he mentioned that the publicity work on the crisis situation in Madagascar should let more social organizations, international organizations, enterprises, etc. know about Madagascar crisis happening right now. In order to mobilize more manpower and material resources to assist it.


In addition, the meeting also discussed the details of international aid donations and the forms of cooperation among all parties. The US Green Chamber of Commerce and SEED stated that they will continue to pay attention to the Madagascar crisis assistance project and hope to work with the CBCGDF to help the people of Madagascar through the crisis.


At present, southern Madagascar is experiencing a drought of once in 40 years, with 1.14 million people suffering from food shortages. The NESS Working Committee of the Green Society has established the Madagascar rescue project to focus on this situation. Quickly carry out humanitarian assistance to help local people overcome difficulties, and in turn provide safety guarantees for local biodiversity.
