After Nanyuan Dapaozi, the Shahe Wetland is Also Facing the Same Threat? CBCGDF Continues to Pay Attention to the Beijing’s “Ecological Engineering” Progress

On October 19th, the team from “Let the Migratory Birds Fly” project focused on the investigation of the Bulaotun, Nanyuan Dapaozi and Shahe Wetland in Beijing, as well as the problems found, gave an introduction to China Biodiversity Conservation and Green Development Foundation (CBCGDF), hoping relevant departments of CBCGDF to give attention.

CBCGDF has previously conducted field investigation to Nanyuan Dapaozi Wetland and held talks with relevant departments on the project of the wetland park construction, hoping the relevant departments could do a good job in the biodiversity survey and assessment on the project, and avoid relying on short-term, fragmented environmental impact assessment (EIA) report, to carry out reconstruction project, resulting in the destruction of local species diversity resources.

According to the team of "Let the Migratory Birds Fly", the Shahe Wetland is also facing problems similar to Nanyuan Dapaozi. The construction of the park is just around the corner, but there are obvious problems in the EIA. "Although the construction of Nanyuan Forest Wetland Park has given us time to carry out surveys on birds, recent news has shown that in the end it may be that no matter what the survey results are, they will start construction in the near future. It is likely that the previous suggestions will not be adopted. "The volunteers said, "What's particularly important is that in our recent survey of birds in Nanyuan, we found that the number of bird populations that have changed the landform has drastically dropped to single digits, while the number of birds in the original native vegetation, there are thirty or forty species of species, and the differences in conservation of bird diversity are obvious. In addition, during an investigation, we also discovered endangered bird species that were hung on the bird-catching net, and ultimately died of ineffective rescue, which is a pity. " Will the fate of Shahe Wetland be the same as that of Nanyuan Dapaozi? As a very important bird watching spot in Beijing, the Shahe Wetland has attracted great attention from all walks of life.

It is understood that the Shahe Wetland is an important bird habitat and bird-watching spot in Beijing. Over 300 species of birds have been observed and recorded, and the rich biodiversity is evident. In January 2020, the Changping District Government issued the "Master Plan for the Construction of National Forest City in Changping District, Beijing (2019-2035)", among them, the Shahe Wetland Park project in Changping District is mainly located in Shahe Town, Changping District, with a planned area of 544.64 hectares, consisting of four wetland parks, distributed in Shahe Reservoir, Wenyu River, Changping West Area and the entrance of Qinghe River. It is hoped that the completion of this wetland will "make up for the lack of large wetland parks in the northern suburbs".

CBCGDF will pay close attention to this matter, and at the same time will convene all sectors of the community to conduct discussions on this matter, and welcome active suggestions.
