The China Natural Education Online Summit aka the 2nd China Nature Science Popularization Education Development Summit Forum, co-organized by China Biodiversity Conservation and Green Development Foundation (CBCGDF), Yinxin Nature Education Science Center, and International Ecology Community Network, was held on May 20. Over 2,000 audiences participated in the virtual conference, and more than 20 guests brought out insights and discussions pertaining to nature education.

After expressing his appreciation to other co-organizers, Dr. Zhou Jinfeng, Secretary-General of CBCGDF, stressed the reality that Chinese people have been attaching importance to nature since ancient times. He quoted from Tao Te Ching, a Chinese classic, “Man takes his law from the Earththe Earth takes its law from HeavenHeaven takes its law from the Tao. The law of the Tao is it is being what it is", the philosophy which has guided the development of arts, life, and literature and cast light into ecological conservation in modern times. He introduced the history of CBCGDF, three levels of biodiversity, the Biological Extinction, the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD), etc. Dr. Zhou believes that the practice of biodiversity conservation is essentially a process for human beings to understand and protect nature. A critical component in the co-existence of humans and nature is to help the natural ecology evolve in an objective and independent way without human interference. Only in this way can we achieve the dynamic equilibrium in the ecological environment and sustainable development.

The globe has witnessed the development of Premier Civilization, Agricultural Civilization, and Industrialized Civilization. Though regions may go through different phases, the common challenge lies in the increasing conflict between humans and nature as the advancement of the Industrialized Civilization. It is high time for us to embrace the new Ecological Civilization, especially in the background of the COVID 19 outbreak which makes humans deeply realize that the overexploitation of wildlife habitats and natural environment has provoked conflicts. Therefore, everyone should make a change, and the first step is nature education. With children's participation, we help the young generation to understand and conserve natural landscapes including mountain, waters, forests, lakes, fields, and grasslands we rely on, thus creating a space for human-nature co-existence, says Dr. Zhou.

At the end of the speech, he appealed to people who care about nature education from all walks of life to improve themselves during teaching for mutual progress. He says, the conference is a platform, on which all of us could serve as the practitioner and spreader of eco-environment protection. Under the guidance of Ecological Civilization, let us join hands for a better nature and a Beautiful China.
