At the local time 5-7p.m. on October 23, 2019, Dr. Zhou Jinfeng, the Secretary-General of China Biodiversity Conservation and Green Development Foundation (CBCGDF) is invited to give a lecture on Ecological Civilization and CBCGDF’s efforts and achievements in environmental governance and environmental public interest litigation (EPIL). Through this opportunity, the world will listen and understand the work and efforts of China's leading non-governmental organization and spread the stories and voices of China's exploration and practice in the field of environmental law.

CBCGDF’s EPIL platform is proceeding smoothly so that public interest and environmental rights and interests can be effectively maintained.

Since January 1, 2015, the implementation of the new environmental protection law to help China’s environmental protection organizations to bring EPIL, CBCGDF has always been on the frontline in the maintenance of public interest and public environmental rights. Up to now, CBCGDF has launched more than 60 EPIL cases, of which the winning cases have widespread social influence, including the Henan Ancient Jujube Trees case, the “Synthetic Toxic Running Tracks” case and the "Tengger Desert Pollution" case, etc.

The aim of the Environmental Public Interest Litigation (EPIL) is to assist the general public in voicing out their complaint on environmental issues. This new approach on environmental is used to enable the public, volunteers, private sectors and other stakeholders participate and make decisions regarding the protection of their environment, natural resources from pollution and ecosystem destruction.

Environmental Public Interest Litigation (EPIL) in China permits qualified environmental non-governmental organizations (NGOs) to file litigation to protect the public interest in safeguarding the environment and natural resources from pollution and ecological destruction. EPIL is a non-profit activity which not only plays the relief role to harm which has already occurred in the environment but also plays a role in the prevention and avoidance of future harm or damage to the environment.
