CBCGDF Gains Blood Sample Reference for “no move” | The Working Record of Pangolin Rescue
2019/5/1 19:44:00 本站

In the afternoon of April 19, Sophia, the Pangolin Girl from the China Biodiversity Conservation and Green Development Foundation (CBCGDF), installed monitors in the two rooms where pangolins live. She noticed that “no move”, the smallest pangolin, has not eaten fodder or drunk water, which worries her.

After hearing the news, Guangzhou Leader Animal Hospital sends two vets to the rescue center, and delivers three packages of goods and materials considerately, including protective clothing, swab, tissue, and electrolyte. Sophia introduces the development of pangolin rescue to the Leader Animal Hospital. Guangzhou Leader Animal Hospital is private-owned and has medical equipment to conduct examinations for pangolins, such as anesthesia, blood sampling, X-ray test, B-scan ultrasonography, and CT scanning. But it is difficult to move these machines out of the hospital. So, what we can do is to take "no move" to the hospital to receive treatment. After getting the approval from the Department of Wildlife Conservation of National Forestry and Grassland Administration, Sophia and CBCGDF's volunteers escorted "no move" to the hospital for a physical examination on April 20. In order to provide a more comfortable and cozier environment for the pangolin, Leader Animal Hospital moved other animals elsewhere.

The vet needs to refer to the blood examination report of “no move” and other reference data, so as to reach a more accurate conclusion.

Sophia thinks of her previous investigation in the Taipei Zoo, and immediately calls to Mr. Xu of the Zoo, explaining that the Pangolin Working Group needs reference data. Xu instantly sends Sophia the 77 pangolins' testing indicators of serological and hematological diagnoses from March 12, 2018, to March 21, 2019, in Taipei Zoo. Sophia timely sends the report of blood and excrement analysis of "no move" to Mr. Xu and receives instruction from him.

As a prestigious expert in pangolin rescue, Xu shows his concerns in the phone call with Sophia, “To rescue pangolin is a hard task. Thank you!” A simple greeting embodies the difficulties in wildlife rescue.

The rescue work of four pangolins is underway. The Pangolin Girl Sophia works in the front line. Support and greetings from the whole society encourage CBCGDF and Sophia to contribute to pangolin rescue.
