In the beginning of this April, on the invitation from Nature Needs Half, China Biodiversity Conservation and Green Development Foundation (CBCGDF) signed the MoU with the Global Deal for Nature Website, originated by the “One Earth” initiative under the Leonardo DiCaprio Foundation.

This is remarkable. People around the world call on government leaders to support a Global Deal for Nature (GDN) that protects and restores 50% of the Earth’s lands and oceans and affirms the vital importance of indigenous territories in safeguarding all life on Earth, enabling us to achieve the goals of both the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD) and the Paris Agreement (UNFCCC). We also call for a minimum milestone of 30% protected by 2030 under the CBD. Scientist say this bold target is needed to save nature, prevent runaway climate change, feed the world, and ensure a healthy planet for future generation. Millions have already signed the petition, but more voices are needed in support of nature, and the petition will be actively promoted to a broad audience through a network of high-profile celebrities and influencers, with a goal of 20M signatures by the end of 2020.

The Fifteenth meeting of the Conference of the Parties of the United Nation's Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD COP15), which will be held in Kunming, Yunnan Province, China in 2020. It will help encourage the world’ leaders to advance climate targets and the Sustainable Development Goals by agreeing to adopt new global targets for biodiversity conservation. We know that none of these targets can by achieved without securing half of the planet in a natural state. To achieve this ambitious goal, global leaders must agree to an interim target to protect 30 percent of the planet by 2030. The Global Deal for Nature is a roadmap to help us all get there together.

In addition to support from individuals around the world, the GDN website (https://www.globaldealfornature.org/) showcases an array of organizations endorsing the top-line position of protecting 50% - presenting a powerful front of this movement to protect nature. CBCGDF has been invited to join this growing movement by including the logo on the home page of the GDN website and, if desired, to encourage constituents to sign the petition on the website. The GDN website is offered in multiple languages including Chinese.

According to CBCGDF and the colleagues at home and abroad to jointly promote the working relationship between nature conservation actions and knowledge bases, and with the premise of efficient communication and common nature protection, strive to protect the most eagerness of mankind by protecting half of the earth by 2050. The source of clean air/water, abundant life supplies and a stable climate to achieve human well-being. CBCGDF will not forget the original heart, remember the mission, and call for a common effort to achieve the power of harmonious coexistence to transform human society and respect nature.
