Rescued Spotted Seal Pup Sent Back To Ocean by CBCGDF and CCAfa Volunteers
2019/3/24 18:10:00 本站

Little Leftdog, the Spotted Seal we rescued in Feb, is returning the ocean today after rehabitation trainings. CBCGDF's 5 #CCAfa directors and volunteers gather in Panjin, Northern China's Liaoning Province, to send the boy back to its home on Mar 24th. To advance public awareness about life under water, about 50 volunteers and many other citizen witnessed the moment.

Community conservation Areas (CCAfa) is a unique protected area mechanism to conserve biodiversity. Launched in 2016 by the China Biodiversity Conservation and Green Development Foundation (CBCGDF), it's a type of Other Effective Area-Based Conservation Measures (OECMs), and turned out to be very effective in mobilizing public participation and grassroot NGOs in biodiversity conservation. Different from governmental established Protected Areas, the CCAfa takes a bottom-up approach. It's community-based and largely depend on volunteers. Aiming to conduct targeted approaches for conservation, there're 110 CCAfas by far.

Thanks Dr. Sara Platto for your professional help in our rescue work! Very much appreciated.
