The billionth record of species distribution in Global Biodiversity Information Facility, GBIF represents the landmark of the global platform for sharing biodiversity information. In order to integrate data more easily, governments and more than 1200 institutions of 123 countries have joint hands in contributing to GBIF. Among others, Chinese Academy of Science serves as one of the GBIF members in China. The database provides researchers and policymakers extremely valuable information and resources, including relevant evidences of where and when species are observed and founded.

Before the its GBIF publisher was found, the CBCGDF has submitted the latest date of pangolins, Baiji (Yangtze River Dolphin) and bustards of China to GBIF through China node, Chinese Academy of Science. On October 7th, GBIF1billion & China’s Endangered Species (Manis Pentadactyla and Baiji) Data Input Release Conference was wrapped up in Beijing. Through this event, the CBCGDF has demonstrated the date of the Chinese critically endangered species from land, water and sky, namely, Manis Pentadactyla and Baiji (Yangtze River Dolphin) and the bustards (otis tarda dubowskii) that reproduce and inhabit mainly in China to the world. It also showed the preliminary achievements gained in recent years due to China’s emphasis of ecological conservation and environmental protection and joint efforts of China’s public welfare organizations and scientists in the development of ecological civilization. Moreover, it proved that China’s further engagement is instrumental to global environmental protection and sustainable development.

Through active application, CBCGDF was qualified to release data on GBIF platform. In this way, more and more valuable information of China’s Biodiversity can be recorded and observation results from the Chinese public can be referred. In recent days, Thanks to enormous supports from Dr. Xu Zheping of Chinese Academy of Sciences, GBIF publisher of CBCGDF is well built. Meanwhile, CBCGDF will input important data, such as Manis Javanica, freshwater dolphins of the Yangtze River and Sanjiangyuan Region according to requirements of the platform.

CBCGDF again expresses its gratitude to Dr. Xu zheping for his professional instruction and patience that helped to deepen CBCGDF’s understanding of Data Science. With this rigorous attitude towards science, CBCGDF will stay its commitment to contributing in big data of China’s biodiversity.

Note: Dr. Xu Pingzhe, with ten years’ working experience in biodiversity data and academic resources integration, is node manager of GBIF, China Academy of Sciences, CAS who undertakes IT projects of Ministry of Science and Technology and CAS. GBIF CASWebistehttp://www.gbifchina.org/has published millions of records by the tool GBIF IPT and provides technological support and counselling service. The node has been constantly backed by Biodiversity Committee of the Chinese Academy of Sciences.
