On October 22nd, the Pangolin Girl Sophia from CBCGDF continued to go to National Pingtung University of Science and Technology (NPUST), Taiwan to visit Pingtung Rescue Center for Endangered Wild Animals.

SUN Jingmin, Doctor at Institute of Bioresources, said that before we can truly rescue and release pangolins, relative materials and tool box shall be ready. He stated that the biggest problem for pangolin rescue is the shortage of delicious food.

During working hours of the center, the production process of food for pangolins as well as the special design of the cages was demonstrated to provide a better shelter and living conditions for pangolins. There, pangolins would be released based on the assessment of the vets.

Dr. Sun, one of the few scholars in Taiwan who has thoroughly studied wild pangolins and has 8 years of experience in rescuing pangolins, pointed that the current studies about pangolins across the world is still very scarce.

Dr. Sun Jinglian said that in the eight years of performing field investigations in Lushan Village, he tracked 47 pangolins with radio equipment, and later confirmed 14 cases of casualties, including 2 died for unknown reasons, 5 trapped by caves or tree holes, 7 stolen. "The poaching is everywhere." Dr. Sun said.
