Under the student proposal, in 2018, Peking University established China's first CCAfa in campus, which became a major initiative of Chinese universities to practice ecological civilization with practical actions after the 19th National Congress. Recently, on September 28th, Shanghai released the list of biodiversity campuses in Shanghai. It is a pleasure to see more and more colleges and universities begin to pay attention to campus biodiversity conservation and education.

Urban residents need to be aware of the existence of many different lives in their surroundings and understand the meaning of healthy, diverse ecosystems for humans. The biodiversity in cities is often neglected. In modern urban planning dominated by Western aesthetics, it is customary to be single and neat. College campuses are often located in densely populated urban areas, and a rich campus for young students who are in the best years of their lives, the quiet and immersive environment will benefit them for life and become the future ecological civilization. It can be said that the university is one of the best places for biodiversity conservation and education.

We appreciate this effort of Shanghai universities, which is undoubtedly very meaningful for promoting the construction of ecological civilization and achieving the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). There are 2,600 colleges and universities in China with about 27 million young students. It is expected that more universities will be able to carry out such biodiversity surveys, and they can also carry out bio-diversity competitions such as BioBlitz.
