The launch conference of the “Great Journey of Great Rivers” and “Songs of the Splendid Yangtze River” public welfare campaign was held in Beijing on November 4, 2020. The person in charge of the project released online topics, activity content and expected outcomes. Mr. Xiao Qing, Deputy Secretary-General of China Biodiversity Conservation and Green Development Foundation (CBCGDF) attended the event on behalf of CBCGDF and announced that the "Songs of the Splendid Yangtze River" public welfare campaign is fully launched.
Mr. Xiao mentioned in his on-site speech that the Yangtze River has extraordinary significance for the ecological environment of China and even the world. We do a good job in the ecological environment protection of the Yangtze River, which is an in-depth contribution to global sustainable development. At the same time, it also provides a reference for the ecological management and green development of important rivers in the world.
Human civilization has experienced primitive civilization, agricultural civilization, and industrial civilization, and now has entered the era of ecological civilization. The Yangtze River is one of the birthplaces of Chinese civilization. Many civilizations in the world have become extinct, but Chinese civilization has a long history and is becoming more prosperous. What is the reason? Because we are advancing with the times.
In the era of industrial civilization, we used to continuously ask for resources from the Yangtze River and dump waste, which led to the continuous increase of pollution in the Yangtze River and frequent environmental problems. If we continue this model, then the three major crises of biodiversity crisis, climate crisis, and public health will be irresistible, and our subsequent development will be unsustainable. This is also the deep reason why we promote the construction of ecological civilization and implement the great protection of the Yangtze River.
As the co-organizer of this large-scale new media event of the “Great Rivers and Great Journey”, CBCGDF is very honored and very pleased to work with Xinhuanet to fully demonstrate the outcomes of the governance of the Yangtze River ecological environment. Co-launching the public welfare campaign of “Songs of the Splendid Yangtze River” is also an important demonstration of China’s ecological civilization construction achievement.
China Biodiversity Conservation and Green Development Foundation (CBCGDF) has established 27 Community Conservation Areas (CCAfa) in the Yangtze River Basin, and each CCAfa site has a large number of volunteers working together for the ecological civilization construction of the Yangtze River. They either protect endangered species, or protect a wetland, or protect a mountain forest. These forces come together to sing the "Songs of the Splendid Yangtze River."
For this journey to the Yangtze River, CBCGDF also selected representative CCAfa projects located in the upper, middle and lower reaches of the Yangtze River. For example, the Community Conservation Area for dark and starry sky at Nagqu, Tibet, the conservation of native fish in the Jinsha River Basin, the Water Safety Project in Yunnan Province, the conservation of Milu deer in Shishou of Hubei Province, the conservation of finless porpoise in Tongling of Anhui Province, etc. They participate together and fully cooperate with the activities.
CBCGDF also cooperates with Baidu social media platform to launch an online solicit article event with the theme of "Song of the Splendid Yangtze River". CBCGDF will award outstanding authors the honorary title of "The Most Beautiful Guardian of the Yangtze River". Stay tuned for more.
At the same time, CBCGDF also sent out invitations to cities, districts, and counties along the Yangtze River, and welcomes all regions in the basin to provide excellent materials and typical stories. CBCGDF will systematically sort out and fully display these achievements, continuously enrich the connotation of the ecological civilization construction of the Yangtze River, and contribute China's strength to the sustainable development of the world.
