Recently, China Biodiversity Conservation and Green Development Foundation (CBCGDF) pangolin working group issued an application to the State Forestry and Grassland Administration to support research related to pangolin behavior.
CBCGDF as a leading Chinese NGO, dedicated to biodiversity conservation and sustainable development for more than three decades, has long been committed to promoting the protection of endangered species including pangolins.
Not long ago, China has upgraded the protection level of pangolins to the national first-level of protected animal. In order to protect the pangolins more scientifically, the CBCGDF pangolin working group recommended that research on its behavior should be carried out as soon as possible.
At present, the population of pangolins in mainland China is very low, and the quality of related rescue work is generally not high. One of the reasons is the lack of research on the behavior of pangolins. Many pangolins showed strong stress responses such as refusing to eat while being rescued on the ground, which could easily lead to individual death. If could quickly conduct research on the behavior of pangolins, it will greatly help to improve the efficiency of rescue, improve the success rate of field release, and also help the recovery and increase of wild populations.
