From August 28 to 29, 2021, the organizing Committee of the 15th meeting of the Conference of the Parties to the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD) (COP15) went to Kunming, Yunnan province, to investigate the preparatory work of COP15 and held a symposium.

The meeting emphasized that the concept of green frugality should run through all aspects of the whole process of the meeting and ensure the sustainable use of venue facilities and intimate and appropriate service.

The CBD COP15 preparatory working group of the CBCGDF applauds this!      

The idea of making CBD COP15 a historic "green conference" was first proposed in the summer of 2019, Zhou Jinfeng, secretary-general of CBCGDF, made the point during a dialogue with Cristiana Pasca Palmer, then executive secretary of the UN Convention on Biological Diversity, at the EAT Stockholm Food Forum 2019.

At the EAT Stockholm Food Forum 2019, Zhou Jinfeng directly proposed the green conference. Zhou further elaborated to Dr. Palmer, "Biodiversity friendliness should first be reflected in food, accommodation and transportation for international and domestic forum events. Biodiversity friendliness is more than just rhetoric."

For Zhou Jinfeng's proposal, CBD's then-executive secretary immediately expressed resounding approval and promised that the agreement signed with the COP15 host country would require COP15 to be held as a green conference.
