On the road to Marseille: CBCGDF participates in the dialogues of IUCN Commission on Education and Communication

Over the past years, as a member of IUCN, we have been working actively to promote IUCN mission goals, and we introduced two innovative tools, Human-based Solutions (HbS) and Biodiversity Conservation in Our Neighborhood (BCON).

HbS means that each of us can participate in the process of resolving the current crisis, and the efforts of each of us can constitute a crucial component of these challenges.

BCON aims to promote effective conservation of biodiversity in areas where human activities are intensive, balance conservation and development, and synergize sustainable livelihoods and biodiversity conservation.

HbS and BCON stress people’s participation, and by making people appreciate biodiversity, they

can be part of the solution.

We have put in our suggestion to the IUCN committee to write BCON and HbS into Marseille Outcomes to promote positive local interactions with biodiversity.

With the help of these two tools, we have conducted four environmental protection knowledge contests in universities, and nearly 2 million college students participated every year.

We work actively in education on biodiversity. We make textbooks and online courses, set up nature education bases all over the country. With our efforts, scientific knowledge in biodiversity conservation is becoming more popular in the Chinese public.

In communication work, we hold lectures and seminars every week. In the last five months, we hosted more than 70 live webcasts, over 10,000 people participated in each event.  We run about 50 social media platforms with over one million followers; last year, the total viewership of our articles and videos can add up to over 3 billion.

Thanks for your attention.
